¢Öé¹ Ã¶ä¿ ä»·Ò§àÃ×Í - Take the train, travel by boat.
Interesting journey up to Nong Khai last Wednesday night. The train pullled into Bua Yai station in Korat around 5am on Thursday morning. 3 1/2 hours later it was still there. So we were.
There was heavy flooding in the area. Our train, along with lots of others had to wait until the line was safe before plodding on. At every village we passed, a couple of locals lined the trackside, staring at the train, waving, and shouting hello.
Some even took photos of us as we looked out of the window at them. They seemed as amazed as us that the train was actually making it's way over the waterloged rails.
Photos of the trip, and the flooded line are here
One guy we passed shouted 'saaaa-wat-dee-krup' the standard Thai hello, at the top of his voice. 'Wat-dee-ka' I replied. He looked a bit surprised. Maybe he wasn't expecting an answer, especially from a foriegner. '½ÃÑ觢Öé¹Ã¶ä¿ ä»·Ò§àÃ×Í' he yelled as the train crawled by.
'The foreigner boards the train... and travels by boat'
