Who needs to go to the beach...
Was planning to go to the beach tomorrow night... to take the sleeper train down to Chumporn and then maybe head off to Ranong or (after seeing the movie yesterday) Ko Phang Ngan. But then, walking down through Chitlom earlier this afternoon I wondered why I was going to bother. After all Bangkok's a beach. It's hot, sunny and some thoughtful people working on Sukhumvit road have decided to turn part of it into a giant beach. Concrete manhole covers excepted, on one side of the road, theres nothing but sand between Chitlom and Ploenchit stations. I'm not quite sure why people feel the need to dig up a perfectly good cracked pavement, only to lay a new one and watch it disintegrate into its old cracked state a few months later... but its something that happens in Bangkok a lot.
