In western eyes, travel gives you a chance to see new things, have new experiences, find who you really are and what you believe in... A year round the world tour is OK. 'A gap year' as we brits call it. A year to explore, see, do and experience everything you want before settling back into a 'normal' life back home.
Mine was a 3 month trip around SE Asia. I took out insurance for a year, hoping that I could find an English teaching job somewhere like Vietnam and find some way of making my meagre savings last for the full 12. I've yet to go to Vietnam, and many of the other places I had on my oirginal 'must see, must do, must go to' list.
I came to Bangkok, liked it, and just kind of stuck around. Almost 3 years later, I'm still here...
So 3 years down the line how are things ? Have I found myself ? Am I ready to go home ? start a 'new' normal life ?
Not really... If anything, now, I think I'm more lost than ever...
