Extreme เป็นวงอเมริกันที่เล่นเพลงใน style
funk metal + hard rock ซึ่งได้รับความนิยมในช่วงปลายยุค 80s - ช่วงต้นยุค 90s

ดนตรีของพวกเขาได้รับอิทธิพลมาจาก Queen และ Van Halen
ซึ่งสามารถได้ยินจากในหลายๆ parts ของบทเพลงทุกอัลบั้มจากพวกเขา ไม่ว่าจะเป็นเรื่องของ Harmonies ของเสียงร้อง

Extreme เริ่มก่อตั้งใน Boston, Massachusetts ในปี 1985

Vocalist - Gary Cherone
Drummer - Paul Geary ........ซึ่งทั้ง 2 คนนี้อยู่วงเดียวกันมาก่อน และได้

Guitarist - Nuno Bettencourt ซึ่งอยู่วงเดียวกับ
Bassist - Pat Badger

ทั้ง 4 คนตัดสินใจมาทำวงด้วยกัน โดย Gary Cherone
ได้เริ่มแต่งเพลงกับ Nuno Bettencourt และออก tour ไปรอบๆ Boston
และพวกเขาก็สามารถเป็นที่รู้จักใน Boston ได้ในเวลาต่อมากับฉายา
Outstanding Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Act
ในงาน Boston Music Awards ในปี 1986 และ 1987

หลังจากที่พวกเขาแต่งเพลงกันไปมากมายเกินพอแล้ว
Bryan Huttenhower ก็จับพวกเขาเซ็นสัญญากับทาง A&M Records ในปี 1988

แล้วพวกเขาก็ออกอัลบั้มชุดแรกในปี 1989
กับอัลบั้มที่มีชื่อชุดที่สิ้นคิด....เอ้ย...ชื่อชุดเหมือนชื่อวง ......'Extreme'

Single แรกที่พวกเขาปล่อยออกมาคือ Kid Ego
ตามมาด้วย Play With me ซึ่งถูกนำไปใช้เป็นเพลง theme หลักใน Bill and
Teds Excellent Adventure

อัลบั้มชุดนี้ได้รับการตอบรับแบบธรรมดา ไม่ดังเปรี้ยงปร้าง !

แต่ถึงจะไม่ได้มียอดขายแบบถล่มทลาย....จากยอดขายชุดแรกนั้น ก็ส่งผล
ให้พวกเขาได้รับโอกาสในการทำ
อัลบั้มชุดที่สองต่อมา กับ Michael Wagener ผู้ซึ่งเคยทำงานกับ Dokken
และ White Lion มาก่อน !!!!
