Next to my shelter was a shabby hut. There lived a family of four, led by a widow with her two young sons of almost the same age, and her aged mother who was totally blind.
A widow made a living by doing any paid job. If there was no job, she would go out catching fish and picking vegetable. Her two little boys were left looking after the hut and their blind grandmother. So often did they play around my shelter that we became familiar with each other.
One night when it drizzled, I saw a widow walking past my shelter. She wore a hat made of bamboo and palm leaves with a flashlight in her hand. I asked where she was heading. Hunting frog for tomorrows breakfast was her reply. After a while, I heard someone making clattering noises in front of my door. There they were. Two young naughty boys were playing.
So, both of you are here. Who takes care of your grandmother? I asked.
I have already lighted a lamp for her the elder boy responded in a distinct tone, showing full responsibility.
