Concentration Translated by Chakrapong Pongwecharak
I viewed fishing as a means to search for food and a relaxing activity, as well. If I succeeded in getting a fish, a meal would be there. If not, I just took a pleasure in fishing. I fished with a simply-made bamboo rod. Earthworm found underground in the proximity was my bait. Fishing was not my expertise at all but I never thought it was beyond my ability.
Not far from where I was fishing, there was an old woman also fishing. I noticed she never missed even once whenever she whipped her angling rod from the water. Each time she got a bigger fish on the hook than I did.
Quite often I hurriedly whipped my angling rod from the water once a fish was nibbling my bait. The result was the fish, not yet firmly hooked, wiggling themselves free into the water.
Before giving up, I took a stroll near to where an old woman was fishing. I asked a question just to start a conversation with her . Why are you so good at fishing? Could you please teach me how? I dont know how to teach you. You must be calm and cool, she responded without turning her face to look at me.
Then she gradually and quietly lowered a fishing line into the water. Her hand was holding the fishing rod firmly. Her eyes were staring at the fishing float on the water. I noticed every part of her body was full of concentration.
Her act reminded me of whatever we did, if we did it with full concentration, a precious result would always be born.
