อบายมุข 6 (ช่องทางของความเสื่อม, ทางแห่งความพินาศ, เหตุย่อยยับแห่งโภคทรัพย์ - causes of ruin; ways of squandering wealth)
       1. ติดสุราและของมึนเมา (addiction to intoxicants) มีโทษ 6 คือ
           1) ทรัพย์หมดไปๆ เห็นชัดๆ
           2) ก่อการทะเลาะวิวาท
           3) เป็นบ่อเกิดแห่งโรค
           4) เสียเกียรติเสียชื่อเสียง
           5) ทำให้ไม่รู้อาย
           6) ทอนกำลังปัญญา
           a) actual loss of wealth
           b) increase of quarrels
           c) liability to disease
           d) source of disgrace
           e) indecent exposure
           f) weakened intelligence.
       2. ชอบเที่ยวกลางคืน (roaming the streets at unseemly hours) มีโทษ 6 คือ
           1) ชื่อว่าไม่รักษาตัว
           2) ชื่อว่าไม่รักษาลูกเมีย
           3) ชื่อว่าไม่รักษาทรัพย์สมบัติ
           4) เป็นที่ระแวงสงสัย
           5) เป็นเป้าให้เขาใส่ความหรือข่าวลือ
           6) เป็นทางมาของเรื่องเดือดร้อนเป็นอันมาก
           a) He himself is without guard and protection.
           b) So also is his wife and children.
           c) So also is his property.
           d) He is liable to be suspected of crimes.
           e) He is the subject of false rumors.
           f) He will meet a lot of troubles.
       3. ชอบเที่ยวดูการละเล่น (frequenting shows) มีโทษ โดยกายงานเสื่อมเสียเพราะใจกังวลคอยคิดจ้อง กับเสียเวลาเมื่อไปดูสิ่งนั้นๆ ทั้ง 6 กรณี คือ
           1) รำที่ไหนไปที่นั้น
           2-6) ขับร้อง-ดนตรี-เสภา-เพลง-เถิดเทิงที่ไหน ไปที่นั่น^*
* คำแปลภาษาไทยถือตามที่แปลกันมา ส่วนภาษาอังกฤษแปลต่างหาก ไม่ได้มุ่งให้ตรงกัน

           (He keeps looking about to see)
           a) Where is there dancing ?
           b-f) Where is there singing ? -choral music?-story-telling?-cymbal playing?-tam-tams?
       4. ติดการพนัน (indulgence in gambling) มีโทษ 6 คือ
           1) เมื่อชนะย่อมก่อเวร
           2) เมื่อแพ้ก็เสียดายทรัพย์ที่เสียไป
           3) ทรัพย์หมดไปๆ เห็นชัดๆ
           4) เข้าที่ประชุม เขาไม่เชื่อถือถ้อยคำ
           5) เป็นที่หมิ่นประมาทของเพื่อนฝูง
           6) ไม่เป็นที่พึงประสงค์ของผู้ที่จะหาคู่ครองให้ลูกของเขา เพราะเห็นว่าจะเลี้ยงลูกเมียไม่ไหว
           a) As winner he begets hatred.
           b) As loser he regrets his lost money.
           c) There is actual loss of wealth.
           d) His word has no weight in an assembly.
           e) He is scorned by his friends and companions.
           f) He is not sought after by those who want to marry their daughters, for they would say that a gambler connot afford to keep a wife.
       5. คบคนชั่ว (association with bad companions) มีโทษ โดยนำให้กลายไปเป็นคนชั่วอย่างคนที่ตนคบทั้ง 6 ประเภท คือ ได้เพื่อนที่จะนำให้กลายเป็น
           1) นักการพนัน (gamblers)
           2) นักเลงหญิง (rakes; seducers)
           3) นักเลงเหล้า (drunkards)
           4) นักลวงของปลอม (cheater with false things)
           5) นักหลอกลวง (swindlers)
           6) นักเลงหัวไม้ (men of violence)
       6. เกียจคร้านการงาน (habit of idleness) มีโทษ โดยทำให้ยกเหตุต่างๆ เป็นข้ออ้างผัดเพี้ยนไม่ทำการงาน โภคะใหม่ก็ไม่เกิด โภคะที่มีอยู่ก็หมดสิ้นไป คือให้อ้างไปทั้ง 6 กรณีว่า
           1-6 หนาวนัก-ร้อนนัก-เย็นไปแล้ว-ยังเช้านัก-หิวนัก-อิ่มนัก^* แล้วไม่ทำการงาน
* บางฉบับเป็น กระหายนัก (too thirsty)

           a-f) He always makes an excuse that it is too cold, - too hot, - too late, - too early, he is too hungry, - too full and does no work.

       อบายมุขหมวดนี้ ตรัสแก่สิงคาลกมาณพ ก่อนตรัสเรื่องทิศ 6
