ในวันที่ 24 ก.ย. 2551 ที่ผ่านมา กองทัพอากาศไทยเซ็นสัญญากับ Saab AB เพื่อติดตั้งระบบควบคุมและสั่งการ (Command and Control System) สำหรับควบคุมปฏิบัติการทางอากาศของกองทัพอากาศไทย ซึ่งคาดว่าเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของโครงการจัดหาเครื่องบินขับไล่ Gripen ของกองทัพอากาศ
สำหรับ StriC นั้นคือซอฟแวร์ที่ทำงานบนระบบปฏิบัติการ Linux หรือถ้าลูกค้าต้องการก็สามารถติดตั้งในระบบปฏิบัติการ Windows ได้ แต่จากประสบการณ์ผม ผมไม่อยากฝากอนาคตของความมั่นคงของประเทศของผมไว้กับ Microsoft เลยฮะ คิดดูสิถ่าเกิดใครบุกเข้ามาแล้วอยู่ดี ๆ Windows มันขึ้น Blue Screen มา ข้าศึกเขาคงไม่มารอเรา Restart เครื่องหรอก จริงไหม? ..... โดยผู้ใช้จะติดตั้งคอมพิวเตอร์ซึ่งทำหน้าที่เป็น Terminal ในการรับข้อมูลจากเครือข่ายต่าง ๆ เข้าสู่ศูนย์บัญชาการ และ Terminal เหล่านั้นจะถูกควบคุมโดย Server ของระบบอีกทีหนึ่ง .... เจ้าหน้าที่แต่ละนายที่ทำงานกับ StriC จะสื่อสารกันผ่าน Voice Over IP เพื่อทดแทนการสื่อสารกันผ่านอินเตอร์คอมพ์
StriC Terminal
ในกรณีของกองทัพอากาศไทยนั้น StriC จะต้องทำการเชื่อมต่อกับระบบป้องกันภัยทางอากาศอัตโนมัติของกองทัพอากาศหรือ Royal Thai Air Defense System (RTADS) ซึ่งเป็นเครือข่ายระด้าร์ระยะไกลและเครือข่ายการส่งข้อมูลประสิทธิภาพสูงซึ่งกองทัพอากาศกำลังดำเนินการติดตั้งในเฟสสุดท้ายอยู่ และ RTADS ก็จะเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของระบบ Joint Air Defense Digital Information Network หรือ JADDIN ที่อยู่ในความควบคุมของกองบัญชาการกองทัพไทย
Saab has received an order worth 158 MTHB from the Royal Thai Air Force for development of the Royal Thai Air Force air defence command and control system.
9/24/2008 | The system will be developed in close collaboration with the customer and adapted for the specific requirements of the Royal Thai Air Force. The system involves the latest technology within for example data fusion capabilities, and is developed to be intuitive and user friendly.
The order is important for the continued development of Saabs expertise in command and control systems for air defence, says Peter Wimmerström, President of Saab Systems.
The contract has been awarded in competition with the major command & control companies in the world and marks the continued cooperation between Saab and the Royal Thai Air Force.
