One Purder Tree Translated by Chakrapong Pongwecharak
I loved looking at Purder trees that lined both sides of one street whenever I passed by. Upon flowering, their glowing purple flowers would line in a row. But I didnt know what happened to a trunk of one Purder tree. I guessed it may have been hit by a car since the scar on the trunk indicated that the tree was hit so severely that it collapsed and was broken. The branches were ripped. But the root still firmly stuck to the ground.
Whenever I passed by, the tree remained like that without anyone straightening it. However, it was still alive despite its twisted and leaning trunk. The instinct of a living thing made the Purder tree struggle to survive. It seemed to put out more branches and put forth more leaves than other ordinary Purple trees.
Many seasons had passed and I hadnt passed by that street for quite a long time. But this morning I happened to be there again. There I saw that Purder tree growing and leaning 40 degree to the ground. Once it shot up to a certain extent, the twig and the leaves were standing upright to absorb the sunlight. The leaves were so green and verdant while its booming flowers were so resplendent. The tree now looked so strong and healthy.
Besides its beautiful blossoms, the trees branches and leaves provided a shady shelter to passers-by. The twisted trunk of the Purder tree, however, looked more beautiful and more eye-catching than others, despite a big scar at its bole.
