Comment in theatlantic.com .. #13 is from the harbor around Governor's Island, not from under the Brooklyn Bridge. The canyon of Broadway on the left wouldn't be visible from the bridge. With the direct angle on the south ferry terminals I'd place it on the Staten Island Ferry - similar to this, from the 50s:

Comment in theatlantic.com .. I was born on the lower east-side of NYC in 1939. We swam in the East River, played stick-ball in the streets, we also swam in the Pitt Street City Pool. We played in old abandoned buildings called, 'the boogies', Built pigeon coops on our roofs. We also belonged to the Henry Street Settlement House and the Educational Alliance.

I NOTICED A LOT OF MEN WORKED IN THE SUITS EVEN THE MEN PAINTING THE BRIDGES. TO SEE THE CLOTHES HANGING ON THE LINE WAS GREAT, I USE TO HANG THEM UP LIKE THAT FOR MY MOM. THE CROWDS OF PEOPLE THAT WENT TO THE STADIUM TO WATCH BASEBALL. IT WAS ALL FUN NOW THAT I LOOK BACK AT IT, WE WERE ALL POOR TOGETHER AND THERE WAS MORE PATRIOTISM AMONG THE PEOPLE.. (with lots of Buffalo Head nickles) He was a wonderful and honest man, though probably bible-brained. He chased the girlie shows out of Coney Island, to be replaced by then politically correct, freak shows.

Looking at the photo showing the many washlines with hanging clean laundry outside the tenements....it immediately brought back that wonderful, fresh, unforgettable fragrance that we experienced after bringing the dry laundry back into our kitchen. That fragrance remains with me today and I will never understand how my mother was able to hand wash, using a tub and wash board, all we needed for a family of five. She filled four lines, winter and summer, for so many years. We were all so fortunate to have experienced so many such wonderful things....New York City; my HOMETOWN!!!

Comment in theatlantic.com .. #51 is the result of an possible side-swipe switching accident on the 9th Ave El over Greenwich St between Carlilse and Albany Streets on April, 12, 1920, North of the Rector St Station. I have a couple of other photos of the Era that identify the location as, looking North from Carlilse, (similar to image #51) and looking South from Albany.

Great photos, notice the guys working or painting the bridges without any safety harnesses just a brush and a bucket of paint and tables for ladies whats that about!?
What a rich heritage and how lucky we both are to have been born and lived in the "Greatest City in the World" I was born in B'klyn 1933. The people were real, the streets fascinating as a child and the families close in many ways. Coney where sandwiches mixed with kicked up sand and itchy wool bathing suits and trolleys to get there with scratchy woven seats. Air Raid Wardens, Ration Books etc.
