เทศกาล “Burning Man“ เทศกาลนี้จัดขึ้นกลางทะเลทราย คนต้องเดินแบกน้ำ อาหาร ที่นอน เต๊นท์ กันไปอยู่กลางทะเลทราย ที่ติสท์แตกไปกว่านั้นก็คือ เค้าเหล่านั้นจะแต่งตัวแบบหลุดโลก และนำงานศิลปะของตนเองมาโชว์ด้วย เรียกว่าเป็นการรวมตัวของคนบ้าๆมาอยู่กันกลางทะเลทรายถึงหนึ่งสัปดาห์ และ ในวันเสาร์ก็จะเผาหุ่นรูปคนขนาดสูงใหญ่ พร้อมกับงานศิลปะของตนในคืนสุดท้าย ให้เหลือไว้แต่ความทรงจำ นี่จึงเป็นเหตุผลว่าทำไมจึงถูกเรียกว่า “Burning Man” โดยล่าสุดปีนี้มีผู้เข้าร่วมงาน 65,000 คน

งานเทศกาลศิลปะและดนตรี “เบิร์นนิ่ง แมน” จัดขึ้นเป็นประจำทุกปีที่ทะเลทรายแบล็ค ร็อค รัฐเนวาด้า สหรัฐอเมริกา ซึ่งตามวิกิพีเดียได้อธิบายว่างานนี้เป็นการทดลองการสร้างชุมชน และเป็นการแสดงออกอย่างขีดสุดถึงการสร้างความเชื่อมั่นในตนเองอย่างสุดขีด ของบรรดาเหล่าผู้ร่วมงาน ซึ่งแน่นอนว่าถ้าเป็นการรวมกันของบรรดาเหล่าหัวรุนแรงติสแตกทางศิลปะแล้ว มันต้องสุดขีดจริงๆ

แต่ละปีมีผู้เข้าร่วมงานขนาดตั๋วจำนวน 50,000 ใบขายหมดทุกครั้ง ปัจจุบันการจัดงานนี้อยู่ในมือขององค์กรไม่แสวงผลกำไร “Burning Man Project”
จุด เริ่มต้นของงานเกิดขึ้นเมื่อ 26 ปีที่แล้วในปี 1986 ลาร์รี่ ฮาร์วีย์, เจอรี่ เจมส์ และเพื่อนอีกไม่กี่คน จัดปาร์ตี้รอบกองไฟขึ้นที่หาดเบเกอร์ ที่ซานฟรานซิสโก และทำการเผาหุ่นไม้รูปคนขนาด 2.7 เมตรและหมาไม้เล็กๆตัวหนึ่ง ซึ่งคุณฮาร์วี่ย์อ้างว่าเป็นการแสดงออกอย่างขีดสุด (radical self-expression) และแต่ละปีหุ่นไม้นี้จะมีความสูงใหญ่เพิ่มขึ้นเรื่อยๆ หลังจากนั้นก็ถูกย้ายมาจัดต่อที่เมืองแบล็คร๊อค รัฐเนวาด้า กลางทะเลทราย

เหล่าบรรดาผู้ร่วมงานต้องสามารถเอาตัวรอดเองได้ด้วยเนื่องจากบริเวณจัดงานเป็นกลางทะเลทรายไม่มีน้ำอาหาร ในงานจะไม่มีการใช้เงินเนื่องจากวัตถุประสงค์หลักของงานคือการให้และการแสดงออก
          ในปีหลังๆเริ่มมีกฎกติกามากขึ้นรวมถึงการไม่อนุญาตให้ใช้ยานพาหนะที่เร็วกว่า 5 กม/ชมและห้ามนำสุนัขเข้างาน
          คนที่มาทำงานที่นี่ล้วนเป็นอาสาสมัครที่มาลงมือทำด้วยใจอย่างแท้จริง ผู้ที่มาร่วมงานนี้เป็นคนมาจากทั่วทุกมุมโลก มีเต๊นท์ของชาติต่างๆกระจุกๆเป็นชุมชน เหมือนเป็นอาณานิคม เปลี่ยนเมืองเล็กๆกลางทะเลทรายเป็นเทศกาลที่ยิ่งใหญ่ระดับโลก ผู้เข้าร่วมงานกว่า 50,000 คนในแต่ละปี
