How to Win Political Battles Peacefully: An American Example
=======================================================
Thailand became a failed state, despite her abundance in natural resources. Reasons of this failure dealt with multiple factors, some of those were belief in democracy and patience.
During my 6 years in the US for my study, I exposed myself to the American society thereby I learnt something from it.... A part of that is their faith in democracy and how they value their freedom. During the past 50 years, there are constantly "battles" in America... One of which is about incorporating their faith in Christianity into the entire society.
You might be surprised by my previous sentence. Yes, America is considered to be a christian country, however, christian belief and faith have not been fully embedded into the society (i.e. homosexuality, gay marriage, stem cell research, abortion and so on). These made many Christian Americans feel very bitter on their government and country.
They fought, both in public and elsewhere.... There was loss, but, most of those was not blood...
One of their key strategies to win the battles of faith and belief dealt with winning the vote in the Supreme Court. America is a country ruled by laws. This is the most important concept which almost all of the Americans are believing. Thereby, the Supreme Court is the most important institute/organization which decides, in one particular issue, this is lawful or not lawful. And, its decision is final; everyone on the land must listen, obey, enforce, and live with it.
If I'm not mistaken, the Supreme Court consists of 9 judge members who can retain their post until they are dead or resign. During the past 40 years, a group of the American christian bit by bit has tried to involve in the process... Up to present, it has 5 out of 9 members who share the same belief as theirs.
When looking back into our country, we have problems, we have things that we do not like even despise, we can solve problems using brute force or subordination. Yes, we can.... and, actually, we already did that at a regular basis. We marched on the street when we felt upset. We burnt our houses down when we got angry. We crusified our own countrymen and branded them as traitors. What we did are all violence, pain, killing and death.
When looking at the outcomes of those approaches in our society nowadays, what do we see in this?
For me, what I saw is chaos and anarchy. This is not a good future for my children or your children or younger generations. One day, when they grow up, they will curse us, use us as a bad example, and perhaps despise us.
If we want to solve problems, the above example is a good one that we can use to come up with the solution that can solve our problems for many hundreds of years. We got to build an ethical system, learn the system, and play by its rules.
Best wishes, Manupat Lohitnavy, PhD

For my opinion, Thai politic is like you have a chronic disease. Its might subside but cannot be cure. When you take care of yourself, you can control of your disease. Vice versa when you become weak and neglect yourself, your disease is exacerbated and you are infected by your own normal flora.
