=================================================== If you were in the US, you should have heard about her, Oprah Wimfrey.
She was ranked number one as the richest woman in the world... richer than J.K. Rowling, the author of Harry Potter, and Elizabeth Windsor, the Queen of England....
She owned many divesified groups of entertainment businesses in the states.... But, that's not the key why she became the most beloved billionaire.
Even I'm not her fan... But sometimes when I turned the TV to her show by chance, I would have felt that this woman had a heart as a person and she could bring true humanity from her guests... sometimes good, sometimes great, sometimes ugly and sometimes evil... This was a normalcy among heterogeniety in human race, wasn't it?
Oprah came from a financially poor family.... growing up and fighting her ways to the biggest American dream, being rich. But she had never forgotten about her past during her childhood, a crave for education... knowing that education would be the only way propelling her to a better place....and, up to date, it had been proven that she was absolutely right by her own experiences.
She tried to re-pay her American fellows with her fortune by coming to places she believed that those places would be the places in needs-- just like her when she was young....
She was wrong.... Place after place she went, explored and was exposed to those young Americans in schools... With her surprises, those kids didn't need books nor knowledge... Most of them needed an iPod, a cellphone, a pair of new MJ sneakers, a newly released music CD and "cool stuffs"....
Well, we couldn't blame them, right? They just would like to have "a spot" and to blend into the society to which they would like to belong.
How much money Oprah needed to fulfill these "iPod dreams"?
More than she had in this natural life and the next, I would guess.
Yes, she believed that, with this current American rages of materialism, she could not do a thing to help...
So, she turned to someone whom desperately needed her helps some where.
She went to South Africa.... She found out that there were many many girls left, abandoned and abused. These girls had absolutely nothing even very basic needs in life as a human being. They had no foods, no houses, no chances and no education... But they shared one thing in common, that was they would like to have a better life.... They believed that they could have one if they were educated... just gave them a chance....
No chances had come to them much in such harsh environments....
Oprah saw the problems and believed that her wealth and heart could help and materialize those young dreams.
She donated a lot of money to build schools in the country, selected girls to her schools, gave them clothes, housing, food, teachers and teaching materials they needed.
She gave them a new life---a better one...
She believed that this effort might not make a difference today but it could be in the next hundred years....
With this, her name was being nominated as a Nobel-Prize-in-Peace candidate.
If you asked me whether or not she deserved this most honorable prize in mankind this year, I would say No.... not because wasn't she doing a great job for a great cause...
Admittedly, I believe that education was the only way to push mankind into a better position... However, in my humble opinion, Oprah needed to demonstrate her determination in supports in education for a longer period of time and in a higher level...
If she maintained her determination and beautiful hearts as she had done today, one day she would win the ultimate prize.... I had no doubt with that.

================================= Note: My life has been intertwined with works and many others. New responsibility has emerged, resulting less and less time for my ordinary life. Although, a love to write is still intact... But having less time is related to having less imagination.... Therefore, I could not come up with new writings for quite some times.
It might be a good time for me to leave this forum for moment.... Please take it as Mr. A.T. is having a sabbactatical leave or something like that....
As noted above, my love to write is still the same... and will not be changed. Sometimes somehow, I hope I could come back and give some thoughts in this blog once more.
Cheers, Mr. A.T. June 6th, 2008
=================================
Hello,
My pen-name in Pantip is amatuer translator. Actually, I'm a lousy translator with lame translation. My pen-name is somewhat misleading, I have no background in linguistics what-so-ever. Anyway I love to read, write and communicate with people...
Reading is my most favorite hobby. I read everything from shopping bags to articles in theoretical physics. I do research and teaching for my living. So, reading, writing, thinking and doing research works are my everyday routine.
I would like to define myself as a person who is accepting new ideas and adopting those into my way of life.
I believe in power of knowledge/education. I think every society can be a better society with knowledge. Ignorance can be dispelled by it. Humanity can live sustainably and harmoniously with each other along with its biosphere with understandings in the nature surrounding it.
Apart from my philosophical thoughts reflecting who I am, I can tell you something I like or love in particular;
I love dogs.... Particularly, labradore retrievers.... One day, I would like to spend my time and life with them as a big part of my family.
Zhuge Liang is my hero. With his wisdom and faithfulness, he led a tiny army to a mighty and formidable kingdom. He left his humble residence with a hope to come back. But, sadly, he had never returned and died far far away from home in a horse carriage in a battle field. If I could choose where I would, I would say where-ever my lovely wife was nearby.
I value happiness and my family as my first priority. My profession and my philosophy come in the second. Pursuit in wealth has never been in my desire.
I'm glad to be your friend, and look forward to seeing you around krub.
