Words are a tool to convey meanings of love and care as well as hate, discrimination and indifference. Use them well.

Sex and Humans

This topic is on a verge of ethical issues, I will try my best to describe and discuss based on scientific and social aspects as much as possible....

We humans are animals and, with this rudimentary categorization, we ought to reproduce to sustain our species.

Withing evolutionary processes, reproduction deals greatly with large amount of "investment" and risks. So, it must have a reward of doing so....

Sex is that reward... We humans have been separated apart from other fellow animals by an ability in using minds... That leads to our success beyond other paralell evolutional relatives in substantial aspects... To name a few: ability to communicate using devised languages, suppressions of intrinsic desires by cultural norms, and so on.

When I was a teenager, in that time, dinosuars still walked the earth. Premarital sex among girlfriend-boyfriend was really rare.... Virginity in female was strictly reserved. Well, for male students, they often went to hooker houses to, you know, release their "curiosity" and "to learn lessons".

Dinosaurs were vanished, here came HIV/AIDS.... In those days, wearing a condom wasn't a demonstration of manhood... As a result, those explicit, audacious men were infected and killed by the fatal disease....

In that time, Thailand had a dramatic number of infected patient of 1 million!!--- That's one in sixty... This wildfire was rapidly buring with alarming trend along with western Hollywood influences....

These led to many sexual behavioral impacts and changes upon Thai society: 1) Baggies were a must (which is a good thing.) and; 2) Less trips to prostitutes and diverted to "a safer partner".

Well, my statements may not be strictly correct... But I believe it's close... and yet that turned the tide.

When pondering back into American society and its perception upon "the natural rewards". For many Americans, sex is a meal.... They would love to "have" it after their dinners.

With this different mindset about the same issue, this has brought about to different sexual behaviors among the two societies.

In American mindsets, there are both sides of the coins: both positive and negative effects.... The most apparent, negative effect of "one-night stand" behavior is having unprepared pregnancy and single mothers....

Abortion is one legal option that women can make. However, in American society, abortion is not a well-accepted idea... Even, they have one good solution, adoption, to relieve the magnitude of the problem... Anyway single mothers are still common in this society... For them, life is tough... Having a baby or a child while they have to struggle or work more than one job to just catch up is never easy here either.

In Thailand, even though we don't legalize abortion... But, in every corner of major cities, I saw and accepted that we had "free abortion".... These "family" clinics may have some personel practicing abortion illegally... Well, I would not like to criticize on further issue... However, some women might experience fatal complications from these clinics...

One aspect that the Thai may have more option to deal with this natural human's desire is "Plan B"... Plan B is a usage of morning-after birthcontrol pills... Believe it or not, in the US, having one pill of these needs a prescription from a doctor... So, it's not practical to have a successful protection from the pills... In the contrary, in Thai society, using this particular kind of pills is quite common... A woman may go to a drugstore, get one for herself, and, thereby, protect herself from unwanted pregnancy.

This essay becomes too long... I would like to just stop it here and may revisit the issue later...

Right now, I would like to hear what you think about the issue... All comments are welcome...

Best regards,

There are always 2 sides of the coin as you said. It depends on which one you choose to see and believe.

After a few years in US, I realized that a big portion of American is conservative unlike it was portrayed by Hollywood movies. A number of mothers are actually a housewife. Faithful marriage is expected in every couple. Abortion is illegal in most States.

I always told those who concerning about me raising 2 girls in US cultures that the risks are equal. As long as I raise them with my loving hands I have no regret about my choice.

Note: My life has been intertwined with works and many others. New responsibility has emerged, resulting less and less time for my ordinary life. Although, a love to write is still intact... But having less time is related to having less imagination.... Therefore, I could not come up with new writings for quite some times.

It might be a good time for me to leave this forum for moment.... Please take it as Mr. A.T. is having a sabbactatical leave or something like that....

As noted above, my love to write is still the same... and will not be changed. Sometimes somehow, I hope I could come back and give some thoughts in this blog once more.

My pen-name in Pantip is amatuer translator. Actually, I'm a lousy translator with lame translation. My pen-name is somewhat misleading, I have no background in linguistics what-so-ever. Anyway I love to read, write and communicate with people...

Reading is my most favorite hobby. I read everything from shopping bags to articles in theoretical physics. I do research and teaching for my living. So, reading, writing, thinking and doing research works are my everyday routine.

I would like to define myself as a person who is accepting new ideas and adopting those into my way of life.

I believe in power of knowledge/education. I think every society can be a better society with knowledge. Ignorance can be dispelled by it. Humanity can live sustainably and harmoniously with each other along with its biosphere with understandings in the nature surrounding it.

Apart from my philosophical thoughts reflecting who I am, I can tell you something I like or love in particular;

I love dogs.... Particularly, labradore retrievers.... One day, I would like to spend my time and life with them as a big part of my family.

Zhuge Liang is my hero. With his wisdom and faithfulness, he led a tiny army to a mighty and formidable kingdom. He left his humble residence with a hope to come back. But, sadly, he had never returned and died far far away from home in a horse carriage in a battle field. If I could choose where I would, I would say where-ever my lovely wife was nearby.

I value happiness and my family as my first priority. My profession and my philosophy come in the second. Pursuit in wealth has never been in my desire.

I'm glad to be your friend, and look forward to seeing you around krub.

Best wishes,
