An additional note supplementing to the "Best Place to Live in America"

My family and I felt very grateful in our chances given by many people. These chances allowed us to explore and extend "our horizons".....

There were many people I knew telling me that they would like to come and study in America because they would like to know why America was advancing in many regards in a short period of time.

Some of them got their answers, some didn't.

What're the major difference between these two groups of people?

OK, let me put it this way....

If someone lived in the city where I currently lived and felt that its reputation from such ranking things was just a scam or a fake.... It wasn't the case in his/her opinion.

Well, to be fair for him/her, if I had a chance to ask this individual, I would ask; "How did you live your life when you were there?"

The given answers would clarify what his/her "city" looked like.... The same city we lived, but we might have dramatically different opinions.

If "the city" was defined as a university campus, a university library, grocery stores, his instant noodles in his kitchen, his living room, his TV and his bed, whoever came to rank this kind of "city" would give a sub-standard of living to that place.... True or not true?.... :)

In my case, not only did I study in class, did my job in front of my computer and in the lab, but I also had some other things to take care of....

By that, we had chances to be exposed to many people who lived in this city.... In my personal analogy, if "the city" was a body, people were "the soul" of it.

Thus where-ever you lived, you could have seen one place differently if you lived your life in a different manner.

One small change in your lifestyle might have changed the way you looked at yourself, your community and your life.

The best place to live in America could be the worst place in your life time, if you lived it "frugally" in a tiny space of yours.

The worst place on earth could be your heaven, if your mind accepted it that way.

Remember that the city consisted of not only a structural component, but, more importantly, also its people.

You may come and see it, but you may not feel it.

I used to live 'frugally' in a lively city . . . yes, it is like a hell to me . . .

I have a real respect to your opinion on choosing the place to study and live . . . (I rather choose UMich and live as hell again)

Sincerely like your mature manner na krub

I agree that to define the best place for any individual is way too subjective. It seems like there would be no differences if one lived his same old routine life in the same way no matter where he resides. Then again it really depends on invidual preference. Apart from their social circles, there are just many more than the virtual body of the city itself that determine people's quality of life in a city.

As long as we are happy, it will be the best place.

I really like this and the previous articles. :-)

I used to live in a city consisted of a university campus, university libraries, city libraries (for novels and dvds), Chinese grocery stores (happened to have 3 in my town), Sam's club (for my part-time job), Tops (formerly known as Finast), my apartment, my recorded cartoon networks and sci-fi series, outlet and department store shoppings, a 15 minute walk to school, moving every summer, Thai dessert night every year, etc..

I don't live a life there. I was just trying to get my PhD. I happened to live there longer than a usual student!

Note: My life has been intertwined with works and many others. New responsibility has emerged, resulting less and less time for my ordinary life. Although, a love to write is still intact... But having less time is related to having less imagination.... Therefore, I could not come up with new writings for quite some times.

It might be a good time for me to leave this forum for moment.... Please take it as Mr. A.T. is having a sabbactatical leave or something like that....

As noted above, my love to write is still the same... and will not be changed. Sometimes somehow, I hope I could come back and give some thoughts in this blog once more.

My pen-name in Pantip is amatuer translator. Actually, I'm a lousy translator with lame translation. My pen-name is somewhat misleading, I have no background in linguistics what-so-ever. Anyway I love to read, write and communicate with people...

Reading is my most favorite hobby. I read everything from shopping bags to articles in theoretical physics. I do research and teaching for my living. So, reading, writing, thinking and doing research works are my everyday routine.

I would like to define myself as a person who is accepting new ideas and adopting those into my way of life.

I believe in power of knowledge/education. I think every society can be a better society with knowledge. Ignorance can be dispelled by it. Humanity can live sustainably and harmoniously with each other along with its biosphere with understandings in the nature surrounding it.

Apart from my philosophical thoughts reflecting who I am, I can tell you something I like or love in particular;

I love dogs.... Particularly, labradore retrievers.... One day, I would like to spend my time and life with them as a big part of my family.

Zhuge Liang is my hero. With his wisdom and faithfulness, he led a tiny army to a mighty and formidable kingdom. He left his humble residence with a hope to come back. But, sadly, he had never returned and died far far away from home in a horse carriage in a battle field. If I could choose where I would, I would say where-ever my lovely wife was nearby.

I value happiness and my family as my first priority. My profession and my philosophy come in the second. Pursuit in wealth has never been in my desire.

I'm glad to be your friend, and look forward to seeing you around krub.

Best wishes,
