These question comes up quite often. Should I rent or buy a Tuxedo? Should I buy a black tuxedo or a white tuxedo? Here are my thoughts on the question. Owning a tuxedo is a fundamental part of a man's wardrobe. If you feel that you would in fact wear your tuxedo more than 2-3 times per year it would make sense to just own one. Some questions to ask yourself when thinking of purchasing one are as follows:
- Will I wear this again this year?
- Do I love the tuxedo I'm purchasing or is it a last minute purchase?
- Can I afford to own one at this time versus renting one?
Renting a tuxedo is for a 17 year old that may only wear this to his (or her prom) for the first time. It may not make that much sense for a 17 year old that is going to the prom to purchase the first tuxedo that they are going to wear but on the other hand think about this:
- Do I have any relatives getting married within the next year or two?
- Are there any formal athletic banquets that I've been invited to?
- Is Halloween coming up? (just kidding)
A grown man who is of a certain age and is established would consider different questions in making their decision. They probably can afford it and they also more than likely will have more opportunities to wear one. Keep in mind too that you can always update certain parts of the tuxedo without replacing the entire one. If you have a white tuxedo you can switch out the cummerbund and bow ties for black which will update the look. If you are a woman and own a women's tuxedo you can update the shirt underneath. I hope that you found something in this article helpful. We'll be writing next on Women's Tuxedos.
