Delicious cocoa shell mulch. Sounds good, doesn't it? Well there are a few company's that make this delicious chocolate smelling cocoa shell mulch, that smells great and dogs just love it. In fact they love it so much, that dogs have been known to chow down as much as 4 cups of it before getting full. How do we know that? Simple.
After a couple in Chicago, unexpectedly found their very healthy dog, dead in their back yard one summer day, they immediately brought their dog to their local veterinarian, where he was pronounced DOA. The couple was in absolute dismay and shock. They just couldn't believe this was happening to them. The vet started asking them a series of questions to try and determine, what had happened to their dog, and all they could tell him was that, the dog absolutely did not show any symptoms of being ill, and they were in complete shock and wanted to know if there was anything the vet could do to determine what had happened to their dog. After all they only had their beautiful Lab for two years and it wasn't like he was dying of old age.
At this point the vet suggested that his recommendation would be to perform an autopsy to try and determine what had happened. The couple agreed and wanted to know how long it would take. He told the couple he would go ahead with it and call them when it was completed.
Four hours later, the call came in, and it was the veterinarian. He asked them if they would mind coming in to his office, because he wanted to discuss his findings with them and not do it over the phone. So they said, they would be there, right away. They got into their car and traveled over to the vet's office, where they were about to get some alarming news. The vet indicated that the autopsy indicated that their dog had ingested about 4 cups of cocoa mulch, and he believes, that was, what killed him.
