วันนี้ผมมีสำนวนหรือ Idiom มาฝากกันเกี่ยวกับเรื่องของเครื่องใช้ไฟฟ้า เวลาที่มันกำลังจะเสียหรือเสียไปแล้ว มาฝากกันนะครับ
If an electrical appliance like a TV, computer or fridge is breaking down it is said to be on the blink. The idiom comes from the flickering effect that is often the sign that an electrical appliance is faulty.
กรณีที่เครื่องใช้ไฟฟ้าเช่น โทรทัศน์, คอมพิวเตอร์ หรือ ตู้เย็น กำลังจะเสีย เราจะใช้สำนวนที่ว่า to be on the blink. สำนวนนี้มีที่มาจาก แสงไฟแวบๆที่มักจะส่งสัญญาณเมื่ออุปกรณ์ไฟฟ้าชิ้นนั้นเกิดการผิดพลาด
ตัวอย่างเช่น
Elena: Where the guarantee card for the dishwasher is?
Kevin: Dont tell me its on the blink!
เมื่อ Elena ถาม Kevin ว่าใบรับประกันเครื่องล้างจานอยู่ที่ไหน Kevin ตอบว่า Dont tell me its on the blink!
