Johannesburg Zoo hosts Miss World Children`s Party

Local disadvantaged children were the centre of attention today as hugs and cuddles were given out in abundance by the Miss World contestants visiting Johannesburg Zoo. The Emergency Medical Services Cadets formed a human corridor for the contestants to walk through, saluting them as they passed.

The purpose of today was to ensure that Johannesburg`s local disadvantaged children were given a fun time at the zoo with the Miss World Contestants. The highlight of the children`s day was spending time with the contestants as they laughed and joked on the grass. Earlier the children had been given a special lunch, supplied by Southern Sun, Sandton Sun Hotel.

The contestants had the opportunity to hold snakes and reptiles, to the amazement of their young admirers.

Guatemala, Ana Maribel Arana Ruiz said: `The snake was really cold in my hands, although it was very hot weather around me. I enjoyed playing with the children, who are all so beautiful.`
Trips were then taken around the zoo on trucks which provided opportunities to feed bananas to the chimpanzees, tree branches to the elephants and to wave to the hippos.
