Rolene visits local school ahead of Homecoming!

18 December 2014

This weekend Rolene will return home to South Africa where she will meet a jubilant crowd gathered to celebrate her victory at Miss World last weekend. Before her triumphant homecoming though, Rolene has been taking interviews with international press, and yesterday visited a local school where she presented books donated from every contestant to their library.

Brent Knoll School, a specialist school for children with disabilities in the Asperger’s Syndrome and Autism spectrum, has long been a benefactor of the work of Miss World & Miss England, receiving a new school coach 2 years ago as well as funding for developments. Yesterday they were presented with a unique selection of colourful books from around the world, each one donated by a contestant of Miss World 2014.

Every year, a ‘World Library’ is donated to a local school, comprising of books donated by each contestant of Miss World, to provide a view of the entire world to the youngest generation, to help inspire them to learn more of our planet.

Rolene was treated to the annual Christmas concert performed by the children, which comprised of singing, dancing and self expression on the theme of things that are frozen!

Speaking after her visit, Rolene said “As a medical student I realize how much work and time went into 'building' such a successful school for autistic children. I salute the teachers and everyone involved in giving Brent Knoll's lovely children the opportunity to live a healthy and normal life.”

When asked about her first visit as an ambassador for Beauty with a Purpose, she continued, saying “Visiting the Brent Knoll School was the perfect first visit as Miss World. The Miss World organization gives so much of their time and love to different causes and I was happy to work on a cause focusing on Health and Education as the first of many more!”

Rolene has been busy speaking to many international media outlets since being crowned Miss World 2014, including this visit to the BBC on Monday.

Rolene will be returning home to South Africa on Saturday morning with her official Homecoming celebrations beginning as she touches down at O.R. Tambo International on Saturday.

Excited about bringing the Miss World Crown home, Rolene said “I am who I am today because of my country and all of the opportunities I have received in South Africa. It wasn't Rolene who was granted the Miss World title, but South Africa. I can't wait to share my excitement, pride and the start of a wonderful 'giving' journey at my homecoming.”

Family, friends, fans and dignitaries will meet Rolene at the airport where there will be a press conference and jubilant celebrations.

Members of the public are to welcome Rolene home on Saturday, and have been urged to bring posters, banners, South African flags and vuvuzelas to give her a proudly South African welcome at OR Tambo International Airport, International Arrivals terminal!
