President of the Philippines meets Miss World Megan Young
Miss World 2013 Megan Young today had the great honour of being invited for an audience at the Malacang Palace with President Benigno Aquino III of the Philippines.
A day full of special meetings, today Miss World also visited the Congress, and then the President, and is now on her way to the House of Representatives.
Visiting Senate, Congress and President Benigno Aquino III today has been a wonderful experience, something I never expected to happen. I feel very privileged to have been invited here. It is the greatest honour any Filipino citizen could receive, she told Miss Worlds official website.
Winning the Miss World title and returning home to the Philippines to see the joy and celebration has been more than I could have ever dreamed of. Being able to share this with everybody has filled me with happiness and pride and I will take this away with me. I will never forget this feeling and I want to thank everyone for their support.
I promise to not only represent Miss World over the coming year, but also my Filipino brothers and sisters as I embark on this wondrous journey to bring hope to the many people who need our help in the Philippines and around the world.
Julia Morley, CEO of Miss World Organisation said: I am delighted that Megan is receiving these awards in her country. She certainly deserves this wonderful recognition. We would like to thank President Benigno Aquino III for receiving us, it is a great honour. Over the next year we have committed to visiting as many of the poorest regions of The Philippines as we can, in support of the most disadvantaged people.
Cory Quirino, national director of Miss World Philippines, said: What more fitting a tribute for a Queen like Miss World 2013 Megan Young than to be in Malacanang Palace to meet the President of the Philippines, Benigno Aquino III. Truly an honor for us all.
Miss Worlds meeting with Congress also saw the passing of House Resolution No 350, an official resolution Congratulating Megan Lynne Young for Winning the Miss World 2013″ title. This recognition was just one of many heartfelt and truly staggering signs of appreciation and support that Megan has received during her homecoming, with the air of jubilation and happiness following her wherever she goes.
Miss Worlds audiences with the President and the Senate come after 4 days of touring the Philippines. After her victory parade through the streets of Manila on Friday, Megan returned to the city of Olongapo. Having recently been devastated by Typhoon Santi, Olongapo City welcomed the festive mood the return of Megan Young brought to the atmosphere with the local population lining the streets and cheering her return.
Joined by Miss World Chairman Julia Morley, Miss World Licensee Cory Quirino, and Megans mother Vicky Young, Miss World arrived at the steps of City Hall, where she was met by Olongapo City Mayor Rolen Paulino.
Megan then addressed the assembled crowds and was awarded with certificates of recognition for bringing pride to the Philippines and shining a spotlight on the beauty of Olongapo and Zambales.
Its a magnificent kick-off for what will certainly be a memorable year of reigning.
