Miss World visited the Philippines General Hospital (PGH) today for the official opening of the new pediatric hermatology – oncology ward as part of her ongoing world tour.

Arriving yesterday evening in Manila, Miss World 2014 Rolene Strauss was greeted by excited crowds and presented with flowers before being interviewed on national TV network GMA.

But the main reason for the visit was the grand opening of the new pediatric hermatology-oncology ward at PGH. Back in June, then Miss World Megan Young attended the groundbreaking ceremony which saw the commencement of construction, and today all the hard work came to fruition as the new ward officially opened. Miss World Chairman Julia Morley cut the ribbon alongside Rolene, Megan and Valerie Weigmann (Philippines 2014) and Alice Eduardo.

Sta. Elena Construction & Development Corporation representative Alice Eduardo was instrumental in co-ordinating ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ fundraising in the Philippines, which was a key factor in getting this development going.

The new building is a Hematology-Oncology Isolation Ward in the department of Paediatrics, providing crucial care for young patients at risk of infection.

Miss World has a history with the Philippines General Hospital, with beneficiary visits made during many reigns, including a memorable encounter in 2011, when Julia Morley met the little girl Sunshine.
