"People in Madrid have always been nice to me. There's always a great deal of expectation. Playing in Spain, especially in Madrid, is something great, and this year is no exception," said Rafa after a 2 hour training session (for the second time this week) carried out in one of the indoor warm-up courts at the Magic Box venue in Madrid.
The World No.1 (eager to step out in front of his home crowd and start competing), said after practicing with Oscar Hernandez -first- and Pablo Andujar later- that hes fine: I'm trying to get adapted to the new conditions and to the altitude. I arrived in the city on Thursday and I'm full of hopes and very excited to play."
Then he moved on to praise his home tournament, The premises are awesome, and the tournament has a lot of potential, but it's true there will be some chaos sometimes because this is the first edition of the event. That's what I meant the other day. Of course it'll take some time to get organized, maybe one year or two."
Talking about his plans, Rafa told us that first, I have my match at 4:00pm. Then, if I have time - being the massive football fan that I am- will watch the (Copa del Rey) final. My favourite? Barcelona of course, they have an amazing team, but well see what happens.

Melzer was very nice in his blog and seemed very nice with a sense of humor too:
"It?s really unbelievable how fast and secure Nadal can play. If you think that Gonzalez has a strong forehand, take a good look at Rafa?s. You simply can?t escape it when he?s really going for it. The only thing you can do in return is to take full risks but you end up being more vulnerable for mistakes.
Despite this defeat, it was a beautiful match. Every seat in the stadium was occupied and the atmosphere was of course magnificent. Sadly, I could only enjoy it for one hour. Maybe I?ll get another opportunity to play against Rafa soon ? but please a bit later than round 2!!!"

Murray in awe of Nadal 5/12/09 6:45 PM | Johan Lindahl
Andy Murray appears to have come under the spell of Rafael Nadal as the world No. 1 continues to totally dominate on clay.
"Everything he's done has been pretty special," said the Scot who made his own breakthrough to the top level last summer with a Cincinnati Masters title.
But while Nadal rules on clay with four Roland Garros titles to prove it, the accomplishment of winning Wimbledon last summer at the expense of Roger Federer has gotten Murray's attention even more.
"Very few people would have thought he could have won Wimbledon and been in the final three years in a row. I'm obviously impressed with what he has done on clay - but what he's done on grass is a great motivation for me.
"To think that he could be winning Wimbledon now makes him obviously one of the favourites again this year.
"I feel I can obviously get better on clay and learn how to play better and get on to second week and go deep in the French Open."
The Scot praised his rival's unceasing work ethic. "Every weakness he had when he joined the tour he's always looking to improve. He's so far in front in the rankings, but you see him on the practice court and he's always giving a 110 percent.
"That for me is a motivation, to see someone who has been so successful and still is trying to improve."
