An essay and moot competition (mock trial before a panel of judges) What is the prize? In addition to a trophy from the Supreme Court, the winning team of two Young Thai IP Law Ambassadors will go on a two-week, all-expenses-paid trip to the UK to visit and participate in various activities at leading intellectual property establishments, including judicial and academic bodies, top private law firms, and creative establishments where ideas are developed. While in the UK, both ambassadors will also join an attachment programme at a reputable law firm. What are the other prizes? The first runner-up team will receive a trophy from the Central IP&IT Court and a one-week study visit to Hong Kong The team with the best essay will receive 10,000 baht in cash and their essay will be published in the IP&IT Court’s annual publication All teams participating in the moot competition will receive a certificate of participation in the Young Thai IP Law Ambassador Award and receive 5,000 baht in cash from IP&IT Court The teacher coaching the winning team will receive a trophy and 10,000 baht in cash from the IP&IT Court Who are we looking for? Candidates should: be studying Law at an academic institution in Thailand be under 28 years old on the submission deadline (3 January 2011) be able to communicate fluently in English (writing and speaking) have a strong interest in IP have good interpersonal skills What do you have to do? Form and name a team of two people from the same academic institution Each team must submit one short essay in English on “The Development of the Thai Intellectual Property System towards the ASEAN community” (max 1,000 words) Complete the application form, downloadable from //www.britishcouncil.or.th and send to: Pasiwat Sutthirak British Council, 254 Chulalongkorn Soi 64, Siam Square, Phayathai Road, Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330 Your essay and application form must be submitted to us by Monday 3 January 2011.

How will we select the winner? 1st round: Essay submission with application form The panel of judges will assess all entries by the following criteria: your understanding of IP your ability to communicate your ideas effectively the quality of your English and, most importantly, your creativity and originality 2nd round: Moot competition Eight candidate teams will be selected to enter the moot competition, which will be in English, at the IP&IT Court. During this round you will be coached by law firms to prepare you for the competition. We will select one winning team from the moot competition to visit the UK.
