UNDER THE WEATHER (informal) - If someone is or feels under the weather, they feel ill

คำว่า  'Under the weather' นั้นไม่ได้มีความหมายว่า 'ใต้อากาศ'  แต่ในความเป็นจริงแล้วหมายความว่า ป่วย ไม่สบาย หรือรู้สึกไม่กระปรี้กระเปร่านั่นเองค่ะ ซึ่ง Under the weather เป็นวลีที่มักถูกใช้ในภาษาพูด (informal) เป็นส่วนใหญ่

ที่มาของสำนวน  'Under the weather' ในสมัยก่อน กะลาสีที่รู้สึกไม่สบายหรือป่วยก็มักจะถูกส่งไปอยู่ใต้ดาดฟ้าเรือ เพื่อที่พวกเขาจะได้ไม่ต้องเผชิญกับสภาพอากาศที่ไม่ดี คำศัพท์ที่เราใช้ในปัจจุบันนั้นสั้นลงจากเดิมสำนวนคือ 'under the weather bow' ซึ่งเป็นด้านข้างของเรือที่อากาศไม่ดีกำลังจะมา
