He’s a gentleman outside, a self-centered person inside ของแท้. Needless to say how narcissistic he is. Lots of people know it except his ignorant fans. //www.murraysworld.com/columns/article/20600/ (Emperor Federer and the naked truth)
I heard most Swiss people are like that. They seem neutral but in fact indifferent I guess partly because they’re rich and never struggle or really have to fight for anything.
Speaking of Novak, ช่วงนี้เริ่มหมั่นไส้ ND น้อยลงไปติ๊ดนึง Still, I couldn’t help but wonder if he would be this vocal if Nadal wasn’t the first to criticize this blue court. Would he be brave enough to be the first player to voice his strong opinion against ATP and all? I seriously doubt it.
In the past, he had appeared to be “everyone for himself” kind of guy as well. ***Remembered what happened @US Open last year? When the officials decided to postpone the final to Monday so that players from bottom half (which at that time we didn’t know who would make it to the final) who played in semi-final on Sat could have at least one day to rest. Fed said he agreed with that decision (for once he showed his sympathy for his colleges) fair but not ND. He complained, saying he was unhappy with the decision.***
But this time he spoke out loudly cuz it affected him/his play directly. As much as I try to be less judgmental about ND, there’s something about him that I don’t like or trust. Besides, some of his fans (Serbians in particular) are as boastful and nasty as RF’s.
I agreed that ND is a great player - one of the best. And I did feel sorry for him when his grandfather passed away last month. Actually, I used to like him as well. I was one of Rafole gang cuz he seemed to get along well with Rafa and I think Rafa really considered him his friend
My resentment towards him didn't stem from the fact that he beat Rafa so many times last year. But it's his expressions/body languages/celebrations after defeating Rafa that annoyed me so much. The one outside the hotel in Madrid was appalling, disrespectful and very inconsiderate. To me, no one would/should celebrate the way he and his team did, particularly when he was still in the city or country of his rival, let alone someone who has always been friendly and nice to him.
But the last straw for me was the gun incident –involving an awful joke b/w him and Tipsarevic at the expense of Rafa. Later, Tipsy had enough decency to apologize to Rafa, but not a single word from ND. With that being said, I have to disagree that ND likes Rafa. He may appear or seems to be fond of Rafa but I’ve got the feelings that deep down inside he’s slightly envious of Rafa’s success and popularity – not as much as Fed in the past though. Anyway, I did appreciate that he accepted Rafa’s invite to play in a charity match for Real Madrid & RN Foundations despite knowing he wasn’t the first choice. But I’ll always doubt his intentions until he proves me wrong.
And to be fair to Fed, I didn’t blame him for turning down Rafa’s as the timing for the match is far from ideal. Fed may want to rest after Wimbledon and be fully prepared for Olympics. He has the rights to choose what is best for him; his best chance is this year Olympics on grass. He will be too old to participate in the next Olympics, methinks.
Speaking of which, I still couldn’t believe that Rafa thought he would have enough energy to play both singles and doubles. He must be really crazy to think he has chances to win both. I’d rather see him focus on singles only. I really want to see him win another Olympics Gold Medal. If he doesn't, I wish it will be Murray's time. Still, I hope the schedules will allow him to do both without spreading himself too thin.
Hope you don't mind my venting/long post. Enough of that, I promise. ;) Let's talk about something lighthearted, shall we?
I came across this twitter below:

Video of 17 yr. old Rafa in Miami 2004 fishing all day with Carlos and he couldn't catch a fish. He got one today! //www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUhY50wBkw8
This is the first time I've seen/watched this video. And I have to replay it again and again. I lol every time I hear Rafa say "hobbies". He was such a kid; he still is, isn't he?
Btw, Rafa will play F. Mayer who beat Milos 7/6 6/4 in the 2nd round.
Btw, I agree with you about Rafa and Muzz relationship/friendship. They genuinely like each other. And I like Muzz a lot too despite some of his tempers. I also love Rafa’s friendships with Pico, Giles Simon and all his compatriots, especially Marc Lopez. They are so cute and effective when playing doubles together.
Anyway, the reason I brought up the complex relationship b/w Rafa and Novak was because in the past they seemed nice to each and that's all. But since the end of 2010 and after the exhibition match in Columbia last year, their relationship grew and they seemed very comfortable with each other. I remembered they went to see Real Madrid match together. Victor Troicki was there too, not sure about Tipsy. I read from one of the fan blogs that after his practice at one of the tourney when Rafa saw Novak outside the court, he went straight to him with big smile and gave him a hug. I remembered seeing the photo of them greeting/hugging too. Unlike Novak, Rafa is not a hugger as far as I know. He only does that to friends and someone who’s really close to him.
That's why it hurt my feelings and made me lose my trust in Novak when I saw what he did after beating Rafa several times last year, not to mention his interview during clay season that he couldn't become friend with Rafa and Fed as long as they're rivals. I wouldn’t know what Rafa would feel about that statement if he happened to read it. But to me, it’s like a betrayal of trust or something. And with the same statement, it could also implied that Novak never considered Muzz and DelPotro (whom he always calls 'friends') his rivals or they’ree not worthy or good enough to be his main competitors. I think that’s an insult to Muzz and DelPro and made him a hypocrite.
Maybe, I'm being too insensitive or read too much into this.

**As has become his custom, Nadal was the most vocal not only about the change to the radical blue surface, but also regarding the politics behind the decision: the money to be made by the change and, for him most importantly, the lack of input given to the players. He is an activist, inclined to fight any industry impulse that drifts tennis closer to the NFL, where players are treated as disposable commodities that perform at the behest of a public interested in being entertained and leaders interested in making money.
I want it all, I want it now !
