Reading and Books

As you might have seen in my profile. I love reading...

When I was a kid, sometime my dad gave me some extra money; maybe 1-200 Baht... For, you know, when I got the first rank from my exam... :)

First thing I would do when the following weekend came was hopping into a bus and took a ride to the Limini Ground (or Sanam-Luang)....

Well, not to buy porn books, many of you guys might have thought that I would do that....

I always bought Pol-Nikorn-KimGyuan... At a price of 3 hardcovered books for 100 Baht... Every penny would go to these books only... So, it wasn't surprising that I had almost all of the series in my bookshelf. And, with the love in reading, I read all of them several rounds and rounds.

Those times had passed.... long gone... fading... and almost forgotten....

Until recently, I have to read books with my son NB..... When I think back to my youth in Thailand, I found that many things far too different from what it is here in the US.

I can recall that books for children in our country were quite limited... and, to be honest, not quite fun to read.... So what might be a reason why I as a ten years old kid went and read Pol-Nikorn-Kimgyuan.... which may not be suitable ones for kids at that age... you know, there are alcohol-related activities and sexual tours to hooker's house in many scenes in the series... But, I don't blame anyone, that was the best one I got at the time.

Right here right now, my son is enjoying tons and tons of books suiting for his young mind and age.... From Dr. Suess' series to Roald Dahl's... For example, Charlie and the chocolate factory, James with the giant peach and much more...

I found that these suitable books trigger and sparkle imaginations as I've seen in my son's eyes and his discussions about the stories.....

If I could wish something, I would like to have more books for children for our children... I would like to see those imaginations sparkling into those young minds and, I believe, it would drive our society to a more constructive one.

Please take care,
A.T.

I come to visit ka. I am quite different ka. I don't read many books. Most of the time I read for the exam. And most of my times when I was a child I played. And my elder sister bought a lot of cartoons so I read lot of japanese cartoons when I was teenager.

so I think the people around is very important for children .. and let them get used to since they are young is the good thing to do.

Anyway now I realize the importance of reading so it is not too late but need a lot of discipline.

Well, I have some books that I like.. โต๊ะโตะจัง is my favourite when I was young..and "The Alchemist" is so good book that I really love...

Now I try to read more English books, newspapers and start to practice writing journal in English... Thanks for inspiration.

When I was young I listen to the radio...oopps...sory

When I was young, everyone knew me as a bookworm. I read everything in sight. The public librarian felt guilty cause I had read all her book and she didn't have the new one...It's the small town boy story krab...

I started with the foreign children's books, e.g. tranlated by Oo. Sanitwong Na Ayuthaya. Mostly the famous stories from USA and England. When the new children's book ran out, I turned into the novels, Thai and Kam-lang-pai-nai stories. At those days I though the books do have magic or spelled, and I was charmed by those old yellow dry pages. But when I grew up I realized all that things happened is the charm of the story. Everyone can read it but only few can "touch" the main idea.

Until now I still be the book worm, ha ha ha. Nothing change....

Note: My life has been intertwined with works and many others. New responsibility has emerged, resulting less and less time for my ordinary life. Although, a love to write is still intact... But having less time is related to having less imagination.... Therefore, I could not come up with new writings for quite some times.

It might be a good time for me to leave this forum for moment.... Please take it as Mr. A.T. is having a sabbactatical leave or something like that....

As noted above, my love to write is still the same... and will not be changed. Sometimes somehow, I hope I could come back and give some thoughts in this blog once more.

Cheers,
Mr. A.T.

=================================

Hello,

My pen-name in Pantip is amatuer translator. Actually, I'm a lousy translator with lame translation. My pen-name is somewhat misleading, I have no background in linguistics what-so-ever. Anyway I love to read, write and communicate with people...

Reading is my most favorite hobby. I read everything from shopping bags to articles in theoretical physics. I do research and teaching for my living. So, reading, writing, thinking and doing research works are my everyday routine.

I would like to define myself as a person who is accepting new ideas and adopting those into my way of life.

I believe in power of knowledge/education. I think every society can be a better society with knowledge. Ignorance can be dispelled by it. Humanity can live sustainably and harmoniously with each other along with its biosphere with understandings in the nature surrounding it.

Apart from my philosophical thoughts reflecting who I am, I can tell you something I like or love in particular;

I love dogs.... Particularly, labradore retrievers.... One day, I would like to spend my time and life with them as a big part of my family.

Zhuge Liang is my hero. With his wisdom and faithfulness, he led a tiny army to a mighty and formidable kingdom. He left his humble residence with a hope to come back. But, sadly, he had never returned and died far far away from home in a horse carriage in a battle field. If I could choose where I would, I would say where-ever my lovely wife was nearby.

I value happiness and my family as my first priority. My profession and my philosophy come in the second. Pursuit in wealth has never been in my desire.

I'm glad to be your friend, and look forward to seeing you around krub.

Best wishes,
A.T.
