A Childhood Nemesis: Competitions that bring both sides up together

------------------------------------------------------------
Many of you like sports, right? Some of you may a tennis fan, I'm also one of them...

Sometimes somehow, I wondered that if there was no Kim Clijsters, would there be Justine Henin-Hardenne. These two players from a small country of Belgium had been playing against each other since they played in domestic junior up to the highest level of professional tennis....

Tough competitions give both winner and a loser lessons... and, these would bring them to a better player/individual they was before the match....

Last year my son NB was starting to play in a tennis tournament, he played the second match of his tennis career with a small 8-year-old player named SL. In that match, SL beated NB ten to nothing and got the championship trophy....

A year passed, SL was always the player whom NB would like to play most... From that loss, he practiced a lot trying to improve his game... and, we thought he was greatly improving; his serving, his forehand and his backhand... All of these were much better than he was when they firstly met a year ago...

The world was too small... They collided to each again today!! NB was much better, so was SL.... SL was a little bit taller than when we last met... But his hastling was excellent... He ran, ran and ran to every ball even when NB hit the ball so hard down the line or perfectly placed to the corner... The champion was always there and made a full stretch with maximal efforts to hit the ball back....

That's the key for SL's win today... For NB, the keys or lessons he should learn were his serving and his self-controlling...

His serving was horrendous today and old tantrum ensued... As a result, all of his games were sliding down the hill to the south pole frozen... The results of the match were 0-6 and 1-6 favoring SL....

Well, to be honest with you, I was happy with the result but I was deeply worried about NB's behaviors in the court... To name a few; throwing his racquet onto the ground, shouting and much more.... That was disappointingly devastating for me though..

Anyway, as a parent, I wish NB would learn how to cope with his weakness, how to exploit his strength and how to control himself. Winning or losing was not a matter to me at all...

The nemesis between these two young players reflect something to NB and to me; NB was still looking forward to playing with his great opponent again---not to beat his opponent in the other side of the net but to beat himself who was residing inside his young mind!!

Little John McEnroe?

Practice makes perfect. I have no doubt NB will get better and better everyday. He'll make his dad proud.

I always taught my children about the 3 magic Ps (Practice and Patient make Perfect). However I honestly think that the first 2 Ps are the most important ones and they would make me so proud regardless of the last P :)

Children nowadays are so competitive. Sometime I scared for them. But the best way to help them is to teach them to cope with it.

As for NB hot temper, it reminded me of Mr.. John McEnroe as well However I understand that it was driven by his disappointment which is normal for child at his age to express what they really feel. It looks like you have more work to do to teach him how to conceal his temper but this could take time. Hang in there ka.

If he's really like McEnroe, then he is welcome to Stanford (McEnroe's alma mater). I heard a lot about the competitive nature of American kids (and often times, their parents involved) in the playing field. I am glad to hear from your own account.

Yes, you have to teach him to be more self-controlled, to be more focused on the game, not to be distracted by own temper. It's the learning process that I believe you and NB can gradually pass it.

Best !

Considering the size of an organisation
Size
Advantages
Disadvantages

Small
· Freedom to make decision.
· Involvement in all aspects of work.
· Liaison with external providers and consultants.
· Direct relationship with clients · Your actions and decisions are vital, so your responsibility is greater.
· Family atmosphere but family-type pressures, too.
· Limited scope for progressing up the career ladder.
Medium
· Opportunities to see and learn from other disciplines and functions.
· Chance to input your ideas.
· Financial stability. · Too large to star, too small to allow much opportunity.
· People outside the company are unlikely to have heard of it.
· Less secure employment than with a large organisation.
Large
· Many career routes may be available.
· More chance of organisation's investment in your development.
· Higher salary levels and benefits.
· Has currency in wider employment market when you want to move on. · Organisation may be so large that you feel compartmentalised.
· Less chance of any one individual having an effect on the company.
· Can be difficult to gain recognition or a sense of achievement.

=================================
Note: My life has been intertwined with works and many others. New responsibility has emerged, resulting less and less time for my ordinary life. Although, a love to write is still intact... But having less time is related to having less imagination.... Therefore, I could not come up with new writings for quite some times.

It might be a good time for me to leave this forum for moment.... Please take it as Mr. A.T. is having a sabbactatical leave or something like that....

As noted above, my love to write is still the same... and will not be changed. Sometimes somehow, I hope I could come back and give some thoughts in this blog once more.

Cheers,
Mr. A.T.

=================================

Hello,

My pen-name in Pantip is amatuer translator. Actually, I'm a lousy translator with lame translation. My pen-name is somewhat misleading, I have no background in linguistics what-so-ever. Anyway I love to read, write and communicate with people...

Reading is my most favorite hobby. I read everything from shopping bags to articles in theoretical physics. I do research and teaching for my living. So, reading, writing, thinking and doing research works are my everyday routine.

I would like to define myself as a person who is accepting new ideas and adopting those into my way of life.

I believe in power of knowledge/education. I think every society can be a better society with knowledge. Ignorance can be dispelled by it. Humanity can live sustainably and harmoniously with each other along with its biosphere with understandings in the nature surrounding it.

Apart from my philosophical thoughts reflecting who I am, I can tell you something I like or love in particular;

I love dogs.... Particularly, labradore retrievers.... One day, I would like to spend my time and life with them as a big part of my family.

Zhuge Liang is my hero. With his wisdom and faithfulness, he led a tiny army to a mighty and formidable kingdom. He left his humble residence with a hope to come back. But, sadly, he had never returned and died far far away from home in a horse carriage in a battle field. If I could choose where I would, I would say where-ever my lovely wife was nearby.

I value happiness and my family as my first priority. My profession and my philosophy come in the second. Pursuit in wealth has never been in my desire.

I'm glad to be your friend, and look forward to seeing you around krub.

Best wishes,
A.T.
