คุมโรคอ้วน! นิวยอร์กออกกฎ ห้ามขายน้ำอัดลมแก้วใหญ่
นิวยอร์ก สั่งร้านอาหารห้ามขายน้ำอัดลม-เครื่องดื่มผสมน้ำตาลแก้วใหญ่ หวังคุมโรคอ้วน หลังพบชาวอเมริกันน้ำหนักเกินเพียบ หวั่น เบาหวาน-โรคหัวใจถามหา
เมื่อวันที่ 14 กันยายน สำนักข่าวเอพี รายงานว่า คณะกรรมการด้านสาธารณสุขของนครนิวยอร์ก ได้ลงมติเห็นชอบสั่งให้ร้านอาหารห้ามขายน้ำอัดลมในแก้วที่มีขนาดใหญ่เกิน 16 ออนซ์ หรือขวดที่มีขนาดใหญ่กว่าครึ่งลิตร หลังจากพบว่า ปัจจุบันนี้ ผู้ใหญ่ชาวอเมริกันราว 2 ใน 3 รวมทั้งเด็ก ๆ ราว 1 ใน 3 ประสบปัญหาน้ำหนักเกินมาตรฐาน หรือเป็นโรคอ้วน ซึ่งเป็นสาเหตุสำคัญของการเกิดโรคเบาหวาน และโรคหัวใจ
ทั้งนี้ การออกกฎระเบียบดังกล่าวถือเป็นกฎระเบียบที่บังคับใช้ครั้งแรกในสหรัฐอเมริกา และจะเริ่มมีผลบังคับใช้ภายใน 6 เดือน หากไม่มีฝ่ายใดยื่นต่อศาลเพื่อขอคัดค้าน ซึ่งหากมีผลบังคับใช้แล้ว จะทำให้ร้านอาหารฟาส์ตฟู้ด ร้านอาหารในโรงภาพยนตร์ โรงละครบรอดเวย์ โรงอาหารภายในอาคารที่ทำงาน รวมทั้งสถานที่อื่น ๆ ที่มีการขายอาหาร จะไม่สามารถขายน้ำอัดลม รวมทั้งเครื่องดื่มที่มีส่วนของผสมน้ำตาลในแก้วขนาดใหญ่ได้ ยกเว้นในซูเปอร์มาร์เก็ต หรือร้านสะดวกซื้อทั่วไป
อย่างไรก็ตาม กฎระเบียบนี้ ไม่รวมถึงเครื่องดื่มแคลอรี่ต่ำ อย่างเช่น น้ำเปล่า น้ำอัดลมแบบไดเอต น้ำผลไม้ เครื่องดื่มแอลกอฮอล์ รวมทั้งเครื่องดื่มที่มีส่วนผสมของนม ที่ยังสามารถขายในแก้วขนาดใหญ่ได้อยู่
ด้านนายไมเคิล บลูมเบิร์ก นายกเทศมนตรีนครนิวยอร์ก เปิดเผยว่า กฎระเบียบข้อนี้มีขึ้นเพื่อควบคุมปัญหาโรคอ้วน และเขาเชื่อว่า มันจะช่วยชีวิตคนได้เป็นจำนวนมาก แม้ว่าจะมีกลุ่มที่ได้รับการสนับสนุนจากบริษัทน้ำอัดลมออกมารวมตัวกันต่อต้าน และเตรียมจะยื่นคัดค้านการออกกฎระเบียบดังกล่าวต่อศาล
