My journey in Wyoming and Colorado (3)
Second day Monday Oct 22, 2007:
We woke up around 8 am and got ready for Yellow Stone National Park. The weather was cold (40F) because it snowed some more last night. Fortunately, I took a shower last night before going to bed. We had some bread and jelly that we bought from Jackson Hole Downtown last night for breakfast. It was not good at all but it was better than nothing.
Yellow Stone was not far from our place but driving inside was like almost a whole day. We started from south entrance. From there, we stopped some places to take a look for the fabulous scenery. The road condition was pretty good even though it got lots of snow from last night. The speed limit was just only 30-40 miles.
Our real first stop was at Lewis Lake. I slipped while i was walking to the lake but it was okay. After that, I continued driving but during that time, I felt like I really needed to use a washroom. We could not find one and I could not hold it anymore. I was afraid to get a urinary tract infection one more time, so I decided to go behind some snowy pine trees. That was so weird and so cold but I did it.
I had more energy to drive now, so we headed to Fishing Bridge. While I was driving, we saw a group of bison crossing the street. Their face looked so dumb and funny. Woo...we were extremely excited because we expected to see some animals here. We parked the car and looked at them for a while.
Along the way, we passed many beautiful places. We saw people who were doing a research about mud volcano there. I talked to a guy and he said they had to check up what was going on under the earth every year. Yellow Stone has many mud volcanoes, so they have to be prepared and cautious.
While we passed Norris place, we saw more animals like coyotes, deer, elks, calves, chipmunks, pronghorns, moose and trumpeter swans but we didn't see any bears. At that time, we were getting hungry and we tried to find a restaurant. Finally, we found one at Old Faithful area. It was just American junk food. I tried to order the healthiest one like vegetable soup and salad.
After we finished eating, we went to see Mammoth hot spring or a geyser but this one was the world's best known geyser. Unfortunately, it was not the erupting time, so the hot water was not high. We still saw many geyser basins all around Yellow Stone.
It seemed that we didn't do lots of things but it took us a whole day to drive around there. I didn't go everywhere in Yellow Stone. I just made only a big circle drive from the map. We went back to our resort around 7 pm and it was our relaxing time. I wrote a journal and tried to go to bed early because it would be a long drive and long day for tomorrow.
