Color of Bodies by Vasan Sitthiket @ Surapon Gallery (Tisco Tower, 1st floor, Soi Saladaeng) May 17 - June 14 2008
We all know that Vasan Sitthiket chose his ideology on Anti-Thaksin side. Personally, I agree with him in this part. But I have to confess that I have such a huge problem with the last picture. The phrase like 'democratic military' is unacceptable for me, especially, if he means it to the CNS (Council of National Security). Frankly, I can't see any democratic aspect from them.
I have to admit that I once agreed with the PAD (People's Alliance for Democracy) about 2-3 years ago. (I had a massive fight with my girlfriend because her family was a pro-Thaksin group). But for the current situation, I fed up with them and I think I should apologize my ex-girlfriend for what I have done.
All in all, I feel very sad that I have let my political view ruining the artistic value. But sometimes these two things are very close.
The other point I got from this exhibiton is about the unclear difference of nude and obscene in Thai context. In our country, when the artists paint the women's breasts on canvas, people will call them as ART. But when Apichatpong Weerasethakul has the erect penis (in the pants) scene in his film, the authorities condemned him for OBSCENITY. I think I won't call it as the double standard. Precisely, I will call it STUPIDITY.
