I found that the Butterfly 10 cotton that I used "grew" out of shape badly when washed. It was completely restored by a trip through the dryer.
When it was almost dry, I pressed it very gently [with lots of steam] to get the seed stitch borders to lay flat.

When it is dry, add your buttons and the add-ons for the version of your choice, or stop and eat chocolate for the plain version.

Daisy Baby
Print and cut out daisy template [at left].
Pin the daisy shape to the sweater and backstitch around the shape with your contrast yarn and a darning needle.
The flowers are placed randomly on the front, back and hood, and worked in as many or as few colors as you wish.

Snake Charmer
To make I-cord snakes: Using 2 DPNs cast on 4 sts and work in I-cord.
To make I-cord, k the sts, then without turning, slide the stitches to the other end of the needle, pull the yarn across the back and knit them again. Repeat until your snakes are about 12 inches long.

To make head: continue in I-cord fashion, [slide stitches and bring yarn across back at the end of each row, so that the right side always faces you.]

Row 1: K1, m1, k2, m1, k1.
Row 2: Knit.
Row 3: Knit
Row4: K1, m1, k4, m1, k1.

I’m including directions for a size small and easy calculations for a custom fit.

(Numbers in green you will customize for your own fit)

The first step is to measure your shoulder-span. Mine is about 17 inches. Then you add 4 inches for each sleeve (8 inches) and add that to your shoulder measurement. I got 25 inches from that, so 25 inches will be the width of my bolero. My ribbing gauge is 4 stitches per inch, so I multiply 25 by 4 to get 100. I take that number, 100, and round it down to the next number that is a multiple of 4 +2. The next number down is 98, and that will be my cast-on number. To determine the length of my bolero, I measure the width of my upper arm, right under the armpit. Mine measures 12, and I will add 6.5 inches to that (3.25 inches on either side which I will seam together) to get my length of 18.5 inches.


*Slip the first stitch of each row for easier seaming and a neat edge

Begin with US8 needles

Cast on ___ (multiple of 4 + 2)

row 1: p2 k2 to last 2 stitches, p2

row 2: k2 p2 to last 2 stitches, k2

Start lace pattern:

Break off the yarn and leave a tail 4 times the width of your piece. Sew forward (right to left) through two stitches as if to purl, leave the stitches on the needle. Sew backward (left to right) through one stitch as if to knit, slip stitch off the needle. Continue in this pattern to the end.

This bind-off leaves a very stretchy edge that looks similar to the long tail cast-on.

Seam edges A to B for 3.25 inches and edges C to D for 3.25 inches, using mattress stitch (as shown in diagram)

The hole created from seaming the edges is your arm hole.

Chose which edge you want to be the top of your bolero, and sew the collar down to keep it in place.

Work to correspond to left sleeve, reversing shaping of raglan cap.



FINISHING
Steam pieces. Sew raglan sleeve caps to raglan armholes.
Buttonband: With smaller needles, work 5 sts from left front holder, inc 1 st at inside edge – 6 sts. Work in ribbing as established, working inc st in St st until band, when slightly stretched, fits along left front edge to beg of neck shaping, end on WS, decreasing 1 st at end – 5 sts. Sew band in place, adjusting length if necessary. Place sts on a holder. Place markers on band for 6 buttons, the first 1" from lower edge, the last will be at beg of neckband, and 4 others spaced evenly between. Note: Buttonholes should be worked as rib 2 sts, k2 tog, yo, rib 2 sts.
Buttonhole Band: Work to correspond to buttonband, working buttonholes opposite markers.
Neckband: With RS facing, using smaller needles, work across 5 sts of buttonhole band, pick up and k11 sts along right front neck edge, 7 sts across right sleeve, 17(17-19-19) sts across back neck edge, 7 sts across left sleeve, 11 sts along left front neck edge, then work across 5 sts of buttonband – 63(63-65-65) sts. Beg with Row 2, work in ribbing same as for back, working last buttonhole after 1/4". When neckband measures 1", bind off all sts in ribbing. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew on buttons.

YARN, NEEDLE & GAUGE:

Online Linie Marly (DK weight yarn), about 500 yards (more if you want a longer scarf)

4.0 mm (US6)

Guage is not critical. Use a needle size appropriate for the yarn you are using. Thicker yarn & larger needles will give you a larger scarf. Thinner yarn & smaller needles will give you a smaller scarf.

NOTES:

K = Knit

K1-B (Knit 1 through back loop) = Insert needle into the back loop of the stitch and knit it.

K2-B (Knit 2 through back loop) = Same as K1-b, except you knit 2 stitches through the back loop (one stitch after the other, not K2Tog through back loop).

K2Tog = Knit 2 Together

M1 (Make One) = Insert needle from behind under running thread between the stitch just worked and the next stitch, and PURL this thread.

M5 (Make Five, a 5 stitch increase) = (K1, YO, K1, YO, K1) into the next stitch.

P = Purl

P2Tog = Purl 2 stitches together

P3Tog = Purl 3 stitches together

SK2P (Slip 1, Knit 2 Together, Pass over) is done as follows:
1. Slip 1 stitch.
2. Knit 2 stitches together.
3. Pass the slipped stitch over.

SSK = Slip, Slip, Knit

Repeat rows 1 to 28 for pattern, knit until scarf is half of desired length.

Do not bind off. Place stitches on stitch holder, spare knitting needle, or whatever works for you.

Knit another half, then graft both halves at the center using the Kitchener Stitch.

Weave in ends. Block scarf to make pattern "bloom". You can choose to block the edges straight/flat, or make them scalloped.

decrease 4 bobbles: k to 5 sts before a marker and decrease next 5 sts into 1 as follows: sl 3 knit-wise (one at a time); *pass 2nd st on right needle over first (center); sl center st back to left needle, pass next st over it;* rep from *, k remaining st.
