Listening to Thai...
I often complain about how hard it is to listen to Thai. It's difficult to concentrate when people speak at, - what sounds to me like - lightening speed. I really wish that I could understand what people in my building say to each other, or to me, especially when they raise their voices or become really animated.
Some days, I soooooo want to be able to follow their conversations.
Who are they talking about ? What are they talking about ? Why ?
This morning, sat in a lobby full of American exchange students, I could understand every single word. It was a strange feeling, sat MSNing a friend in Thai, yet listening to a gang of girls comparing flights and travel plans, places where, and subjects that they study, and the cost of bedsheets, pillows and cleaning stuff in English....
And you know what... I really didn't want to. It was soooo boring...
I was actually sat there wishing that they would start speaking another language. Any language would have done... Spanish, French, Turkish, Alien... I just wanted them to start talking about something that I couldn't understand, so that I could concentrate on what I was doing instead.
Strange, I finally manage to understand the people that I live with, only to wish that I didn't...
