Luce, San Francisco CA
As if the The Murder Room was not enough,it was a drizzling Friday in San Francisco. It was time to go to LUCE for lunch.
Starting with a glass of Quinta de Cabriz, Portugal white wine "White flowers, white peach, citrus and minerals", I've become a believer that your body absorbs less impurities from better quality alcohol and I was willing to justify it.

The 3-course prix fixe reads: Baby Farm Beets / Black Olive Soil / Truffle Tremor / Verjus / Yellow Beets Sorbet

Should I be happy or sad that goat cheese seems like a popular ingredient these days? In a way, I might stumble upon the combination I fancy. Fine ingredients. Good and clean taste, sorbet a bit sweet. A lot of TLC in the presentation.

Beets are tricky to cook well. They can be too mushy, too sweet or too bitter. Good thing I don't need to cook beets myself.

Slow Braised Short Ribs / Spaghettini / Forest Wild Mushrooms When this course arrived, I started to question my choice. It was a big bowl of pasta which I knew I could never finish. Well cooked pasta, tender ribs with thick layers of fat, not sure if the wild mushroom really had a function here.

Earl Grey Tea Panna Cotta / Lemon Zest Gelée / Shortbread This one inspired me. I can see myself attempting to recreate this dessert. Pudding-like texture. Was pretty sure powdered gelatin was used instead of sheet type. The shortbread was more like crumbs. Great harmony, lovely dessert.
I just wish Chef Crenn had been there. I would certainly have congratulated her on the victory in Iron Chef. Oh well, It was a peaceful and good lunch afterall.
