Som and Rod’s Love Story 5 ตอน- แล้วเราก็แต่งงานกัน Som and Rod’s Love Story 5 In Thai culture, it’s customary to have a formal engagement ceremony when a couple becomes engaged. In October 2005, Rodney traveled to Bangkok, Thailand for an engagement ceremony where Rodney met Som’s family and friends for the first time. While there, Som introduced Rodney to Thai culture and history as they traveled to several cities around Thailand. A year later, on October 30, 2006, Som and Rodney were married in Bangkok, Thailand. Because Som was a teacher at the Royal Palace, Som and Rodney had the honor of being married at the Palace in a ceremony presided over by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirindhorn of Thailand. A week later, on November 6, 2006, Som and Rodney had a beautiful reception in Thailand to celebrate their marriage with their family and friends.Even though they were now officially married, Som couldn’t come immediately to live with Rodney as husband and wife. They had to wait patiently for a spouse visa to be issued for Som. Finally, after nine long months of separation, Som and Rodney were able to be reunited and Som was able to come live in America in July 2007. This brings us to today where we are here to celebrate the marriage of Rodney and Som. So, would you please join me in a toast to Rodney and Som. Som and Rod’s Love Story 4 ตอน- แล้วเราก็ตกลงว่าจะแต่งงาน Som and Rod’s Love Story 4 When Som returned to Thailand, their relationship escalated from emails a couple of times a week to daily phone calls. They couldn’t wait for the next time they could see each other and began to make plans for Som’s next trip to the United States. They decided that Som would visit during her school’s next summer break. Outside of Phit and Prasong, no one was aware of Rodney and Som’s international romance yet. Rodney wanted to break the news to his family, but wondered what they would think of such a long distance relationship. A week before Som’s second arrival in April 2005, Rodney worked up the courage to break the news to his parents about Som. Rodney’s parents were surprised but seemed relieved to hear that their oldest son had finally found someone. Shortly after Som arrived, Rodney introduced her to his family and friends. Som’s friendly and out-going nature quickly won them over. The fact that she was also a teacher, just like Rodney’s mother, didn’t hurt either. Over the next five weeks, Rodney and Som’s love for each other grew to a new level. By the time Som was set to return to Thailand Rodney knew he had found the person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. As they sat waiting at LAX International Airport for Som’s plane to depart and knowing that it might be a long time before they saw each other again, Rodney turned to Som and ask her to marry him. Som and Rod’s Love Story 3 ตอน- แล้วเราก็เป็นแฟนกัน Som and Rod’s Love Story 3 Over the next several months, Som and Rodney exchanged emails a couple of times a week and got to know each other better. They wrote about everything from their family, to their jobs, to what they liked and what they did over the weekend. Language was sometimes a barrier, but luckily Som had a close friend who was an English teacher at her school who could help her translate and write some of the emails to Rodney. In addition, Som and Rodney also had the help of Prasong and Phit to translate from Thai to English when Som wrote emails in Thai. After several months of emails, Prasong and Phit suggested that Som should travel to the United States to visit them and also meet Rodney. Som was understandably a little reluctant at first, but with some encouragement from Phit she decided that she would make a trip to the U.S. In October 2004, Som made her first trip to the U.S. Rodney, Prasong and Phit picked up Som from LAX. When Rodney saw Som for the first time he thought that she was even prettier in person than in her pictures. There was almost an instant chemistry between them. Even though they were meeting in person for the first time, because they had been emailing each other for the past nine months they felt very comfortable with each other as if they had known each other for a long time. Rodney wanted to make sure that not only did he and Som have some time to get to know each other better while she was here, but that Som have a chance see several cities and sites in America. During the next three weeks, Rodney, Som, Prasong and Phit made a whirlwind tour of the southwestern United States, visiting LA, San Diego, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Payson and Phoenix.
