I know it has been a long time, but I wanted my next doodle to be the one my fans were waiting for.
I am very happy to report that I will make my singles return to the tour in Warsaw, Poland, the week of May 18.
Although it has not been an easy process these last few months, I really believe it's made me a much stronger person in so many areas of my life professionally and personally.
There are so many things you learn while you are limited to something you love doing. One of those things is patience, not my best virtue, but certainly one of my better ones now.
Self belief...it's important to have a great team and family helping and encouraging you, but unless you are the one believing, it will not happen.
My family and coach have been a tremendous part of this comeback, and I think it's important to acknowledge that without their drive, daily laughs, and endless belief in my ability, I would be sipping a pina colada on a deserted island (not that there's something wrong with that, but playing tennis is just so much more exciting at this stage of my life).
I want to thank all my die hard fans who never stopped believing in me....your letters and messages have been truly inspirational and something that I always looked back to when I had the low moments.
I know it is going to take me a while to get back into the groove of playing tournaments and matches, but I am so excited to be competing again.
On other notes... My birthday was very low key this year (in terms of who knew about it J)but one of the best ones I've ever had.
Full of surprises, friends and family, sunflowers, bonfires, yummy food, red velvet cake, spa treatments, and of course amaaazing presents!!
It's been an on going joke with my friend to answer the phone the day before, the day of, and the few hours after your actual birthday as something like this.....Happy Birthday To ME in Australia, Happy Birthday to Me in Europe, Happy Birthday to Me in Florida, and when it ends, Happy Birthday to Me in Hawaii. This is all considering you're in California.
I know, so juvenile, but so much fun!
Apart from that and a shoot week about a month ago, I have been training quite a lot in Florida and as you may well know, there's not much to do here except train and cook.
My cooking abilities have certainly risen in the last few months, and I actually find it quite therapeutic.
For anyone that says cooking is hard...unless you're cooking in preparation for Russian Easter, where people start cooking the week before, it's actually pretty simple, considering you have decent math and cutting skills.
Speaking of food, I got the amazing opportunity to meet Jose Andres who is an internationally renowned chef from Spain.
His restaurant Bazaar is one the best food experiences I've ever had in my life and highly recommend it for anyone in the LA area.
He signed a kitchen copy of his cookbook Made in Spain for me and I must admit that was my first ever autograph from anyone.
The recipes are brilliant and the tomato gazpacho is one of the best I've ever had...and my Spanish trainer agrees!
I am off to bed as it is past my bedtime but I hope this doodle puts as many smiles on your face, as it gave me to write it.
Roger Federer joined Rafael Nadal in condemning a back-door attempt by the Madrid Masters to install blue clay courts in the face of all tennis tradition.
The re-launched event, moved from October indoors onto a new surface in the 160 million-euro Magic Box had tried to quietly get approval for blue clay courts, but the men's ATP quickly knocked back the radical plan.
Federer, president of the Player Council, gave a measured condemnation of the aborted plan. "I don't think there a chance for blue clay. I only saw it when I drove past it. But we are against it, red clay is the tradition."
Federer was annoyed by the lack of procedure inherent in the affair, with Madrid officials failing to go through the ATP on the matter. "You (should) go to the ATP and to the board in the normal way," said the Swiss still looking for his first title of the season. "You don't ask individual players.
"That is only dividing us, it should anyway be a unanimous decision."
Former top-ranked player Marat Safin believed Gasquet may not be to blame for his positive test.
Everyone makes mistakes, the Russian said at the Madrid Open.
I feel sorry for Gasquet. When youre at a party, at a huge table full of people having fun, its absurd to have to watch what glass youre drinking from.
Testing for doping is also becoming very intrusive. It gets to the point where you almost feel you should be calling the ATP to tell them where you are after you leave a party.
Gasquet lost to Roger Federer in the semifinals at Wimbledon in 2007. He was considered a future star when he first arrived on tour with a one-handed backhand widely considered among the best in the game.
Martina Hingis was banned for two years early last year after testing positive for cocaine at Wimbledon. The five-time Grand Slam champion and former top-ranked player failed a test after losing to Laura Granville in 2007.
Hingis, who has since retired, became the second WTA player suspended for cocaine after Lourdes Dominguez Lino of Spain was banned for three months in 2002.
Former top-ranked mens player Mats Wilander and Karel Novacek had positive tests for cocaine at the 1995 French Open.
That was before the introduction of rules to automatically suspend players following a positive second test. Both continued playing before they were banned for three months and ordered to return prize money and forfeit rankings points.
Newly crowned world No.3 Andy Murray says he isnt looking beyond his first match at the Mutua Madrileña Madrid Open.
Murray, who said he was suffering fatigue after losing in the first round at Rome, said he was working on getting his mentality right week by week and match by match.
"It´s that balance between doing too much and too little it´s tough to get it right every week and we have spent more time on the practice court this week than I have been able to before the last two tournaments." said the British No. 1 who has scored wins over Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in 2009.
I arrived here on Wednesday and Ive spent more time on the practice court this week than at the previous two tournaments. I had a couple of days off after Rome and you just work on some things in practice to get you feeling confident about your game and that is really the best thing that you can do."
Murray received a bye into the second round of the tournament and is set to face the winner of Mondays match between Simone Bolelli Italy and Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina. He said he wouldnt be taking anything for granted when he stepped out onto the Magic Box.
"I just want to try and win my first match and take each match as they come, Ive got a tricky draw coming here, the conditions are different here, there is no use in thinking about finals and semi finals, I mean, I dont play that well on this surface well enough yet to think past my first match and I play the winner of two very solid clay courters, so, Im not going to think past them."
Murray holds winning records over both his potential opponents having beaten world No.61 Bolelli in their only meeting in Madrid last year and No.197 Chela on three of the four occasions theyve met.
Having spent several days training in Madrid, Scottish-born Murray said he thought the event would be a success.
The stadiums being able to close; the roofs and stuff is great mainly for the fans, they always get to see tennis. It´s got a big potential this tournament, he said.
In other love matches, here are Stanislas Wawrinka and his television presenter girlfriend Ilham Vuilloud (via Blick). The couple has been together for four years. Random factoid: Stan’s honey is nearly ten years older than he is.
