Tuesday sees No3 seed and defending champion Novak Djokovic begin his 2009 campaign, with Andy Murray also getting under way and looking to take advantage of any slips from the Serb in his quest for a top three ranking.
Djokovic will play the evening match on Centre Court against Albert Montanes, who won a war of attrition on Monday in his first round tie with Potito Starace. Murray meanwhile will also be on centre stage, playing the final afternoon match against Argentinean qualifier Juan Monaco, who will be in a good rhythm having played for the last three days coming through two qualifying rounds and then sweeping past Nicolas Kiefer 6-3, 6-2 on Monday before the rains came.
The weather caused the cancellation of four singles ties with two more stopped mid-match Mikhail Youzhny will resume at midday in his quest for one more game to see off fellow qualifier Daniel Gimeno-Traver, while Mardy Fish has two break points to convert against Igor Andreev on Court No1. Before them, Marat Safin and Tommy Robredo will do battle in a 1 pm start in a marquee game carried over from Monday.
Centre Court action will also begin at 1 pm with first Simone Bolelli (against Philipp Kohlschreiber) then Andreas Seppi (against Sam Querrey) flying the home flag. Two Italian wild-cards will do battle on Court 1 (Fabio Fognini and Filippo Volandri) before an all-French derby between Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and the mercurial Richard Gasquet.
Courts 3 6 will began at 12 pm in order to make up for Mondays lost time, and Court 5 will be graced by two seeds: No16 Radek Stepanek will face Florent Serra of France, and No12 Fernando Gonzalez will take on Serras countryman J้r้my Chardy who has made great progress in the rankings this year.
A total of 24 matches are on the programme for Tuesday.
