Jenny : Also, was willst du dieses Wochenende machen?
(Well, what would you like to do this weekend?)

Julia : Ein bisschen Kultur, ein bisschen Entspannung.
(A bit of culture, a bit of relaxation.)

Jenny : Gibt es hier in der Nähe ein Schwimmbad? Ich habe Lust aufs Schwimmen.
(Is there a swimming pool close by? I'd like to go swimming.)

Julia : Ja, ganz in der Nähe.
(Yes, very near here.)

Jenny : Prima.
(Great.)

Jenny : Schauen wir mal in den Tip, was in Berlin los ist.
(Let's have a look in the 'Tip', to see what's on in Berlin.)

Jenny : Es gibt eine neue Foto-Ausstellung.
(There's a new photo exhibition)

Julia : Oh ja, das klingt interessant.
(Yes, that sounds interesting.)

Jenny : Und heute Abend? Es gibt ein gutes Jazz-Konzert. Hast du Lust?
(And tonight? There's a good jazz concert on. Would you like to go?)

Julia : Ja, gute Idee.
(Yes, good idea.)

Jenny : Und davor können wir in eine nette Bar. Es gibt hier eine gleich um die Ecke.
(And before that we can go to a nice bar. There's one here, just round the corner.)

Julia : Super. Lass uns gehen.
(Super. Let's go.)

การพูดถึง 'there' และ 'there is/are'

ในภาษาเยอรมันใช้ da หรือ dort - สองคำนี้มีความหมายคล้ายกัน แต่ dort จะเป็นทางการมากกว่า Da สามารถหมายถึง here ได้เช่นกัน

ตัวอย่างประโยค

Die neue Foto-Ausstellung ist da.
(The new photo exhibition is there.)

Sie finden die Bar dort.
(You'll find the bar there.)

There is และ there are

การพูด there is... หรือ there are... จะใช้วลี es gibt ช่วย เช่น

Es gibt eine Bar gleich um die Ecke.
(There's a bar round the corner.)

Es gibt da Toiletten.
(There are toilets there.)

Is there...? และ Are there...?

ถ้าต้องการหาอะไรคือ there is แค่กลับประโยคง่ายๆ เหมือนภาษาอังกฤษ เช่น

Es gibt ein Telefon. <--> Gibt es ein Telefon?
(There is a telephone.) (Is there a telephone?)

Es gibt ein Schwimmbad.<-->Gibt es ein Schwimmbad?
(There's a swimming pool.) (Is there a swimming pool?)

Es gibt da Toiletten.<-->Gibt es da Toiletten?
(There are toilets there.) (Are there toilets there?)
