How to Use Grive (google drive client) in Ubuntu

Selection 195 Grive: Free and Open Source Google Drive Client for Linux

Step 1. Grive will download/upload new or changed files from the directory you run it so firstly, create a new folder, lets call it grive, in your home directory:

mkdir -p ~/grive

Step 2. Next, navigate using the terminal into the newly created grive folder:

cd ~/grive

Step 3. The first time you run Grive, you must use the -a argument to grant it permission to access your Google Drive:

grive -a

After running the command above, an URL should be displayed in the terminal copy this URL and paste it in a web browser. In the newly loaded page, youll be asked to give Grive permission to access your Google Drive and after clicking Allow access, an authentication code will be displayed copy this code and paste it in the terminal where you ran Grive.

Thats it. Now each time you want to sync Google Drive with your local grive folder, navigate to the grive folder (step 2) and run grive (this time without -a since youve already authenticated Grive with Google Drive).

How to Make Programs Start Automatically in Linux Mint 12

In Windows we have the Startup folder where we can easily place a shortcut to a program that we want to launch automatically. In Linux Mint there is a way easier way to manage startup applicationsheres how to do it.

Note: Since this is just for demonstration purposes I will be setting VLC Media Player to start automatically. However, this will work with any application.

The first thing you are going to want to do is click on the Applications menu, then select Other and launch Startup Applications

You will now be able to see the applications that are set to startup

Go ahead and click on the Add button

Give your startup item a name, I will just call mine VLC

Now click on the browse button and navigate to where your application is installed. For most applications this is at:

File System > usr > bin

Now select your application and click on the open button

Now click on the add button

Your application is now set to startup automatically
