สุหทมิตร หรือ มิตรแท้ 4 ประการ
 
สุหทมิตร หรือ มิตรแท้ 4 (มิตรมีใจดี, มิตรที่จริงใจ - true friends; true-hearted friends)
1. มิตรอุปการะ (อุปการกะ - the helper) มีลักษณะ 4 คือ
1) เพื่อนประมาท ช่วยรักษาเพื่อน
2) เพื่อนประมาท ช่วยรักษาทรัพย์สินของเพื่อน
3) เมื่อมีภัย เป็นที่พึ่งพำนักได้
4) มีกิจจำเป็น ช่วยออกทรัพย์ให้เกินกว่าที่ออกปาก
a) He guards you when you are off your guard.
b) He guards your property when you are off your guard.
c) He is a refuge to you when you are in danger.
d) He provides a double supply of what you may ask in time of need.
2. มิตรร่วมสุขร่วมทุกข์ (สมานสุขทุกข์ - the man who is the same in weal and woe) มีลักษณะ 4 คือ
1) บอกความลับแก่เพื่อน
2) ปิดความลับของเพื่อน
3) มีภัยอันตราย ไม่ละทิ้ง
4) แม้ชีวิตก็สละให้ได้
a) He tells you his secrets.
b) He keeps secret your secrets.
c) He does not forsake you in your troubles.
d) He can even die for your sake.
3. มิตรแนะประโยชน์ (อัตถักขายี - the man who gives good counsel) มีลักษณะ 4 คือ
1) จะทำชั่วเสียหาย คอยห้ามปรามไว้
2) คอยแนะนำให้ตั้งอยู่ในความดี
3) ให้ได้ฟังได้รู้สิ่งที่ไม่เคยได้รู้ได้ฟัง
4) บอกทางสุขทางสวรรค์ให้
a) He keeps you back from evil.
b) He encourages you to do good.
c) He informs you of what you have not heard.
d) He shows you the way to heaven.
4. มิตรมีน้ำใจ (อนุกัมปกะ มิตรมีความรักใคร่ หรือมิตรผู้รักใคร่เอ็นดู - the man who sympathizes) มีลักษณะ 4 คือ
1) เพื่อนมีทุกข์ พลอยไม่สบายใจ (ทุกข์ ทุกข์ด้วย)
2) เพื่อนมีสุข พลอยแช่มชื่นยินดี (สุข สุขด้วย)
3) เขาติเตียนเพื่อน ช่วยยับยั้งแก้ให้
4) เขาสรรเสริญเพื่อน ช่วยพูดเสริมสนับสนุน
a) He does not rejoice over your misfortunes.
b) He rejoices in your good fortune.
c) He protests against anyone who speaks ill of you.
d) He admires those who speak well of you.
