******คำศัพท์ภาษาอังกฤษเกี่ยวกับการแต่งงาน*******

อีกไม่นานหน้าฝนก็กำลังจะผ่านไป หน้าหนาวเข้ามาแทน ก็ถึงเทศกาลงานแต่งงาน วันนี้เรามาเรียนรู้คำศัพท์เกี่ยวกับการแต่งงานกันดีกว่า...

แน่นอนต้องเริ่มที่ “การแต่งงาน” เราเรียกว่า “marriage” ส่วนถ้าเป็นคำกริยา เราใช้ว่า “marry” ซึ่งเรามักจะได้ยินฝรั่งเค้าพูดว่า “get married” มากกว่า แต่ก็แปลว่าแต่งงาน ทั้งคู่แหละครับ อาทิเช่น

Will you marry me? คุณจะแต่งงานกับฉันไหม?
She’s just got married. เธอเพิ่งจะแต่งงาน

ปกติเราจะไม่ใช้ว่า 'be married with' someone หรือ 'get married with' someone แต่เราจะใช้ว่า ‘be married to' someone หรือ ‘get married to’ someone เช่น She is married to my brother. เธอแต่งงานกับพี่ชายฉัน

คำศัพท์อื่นๆ ที่น่าสนใจ

single = not married เป็นโสด

divorced = if you are divorced, you have officially ended your marriage to someone หย่าร้าง

engaged = if you are engaged to be married, you have formally agreed to marry someone in the future หมั้น (อาจใช้ว่า get engaged)

widowed = if you are widowed, your husband or wife has died หม้าย (ใช้ได้ทั้งผู้ชายและผู้หญิงนะ)

available = someone who is available does not have a wife, boyfriend etc, and therefore may want to start a new romantic relationship with someone else ถ้าคุณบอกว่า “I’m available.” นั่นหมายถึงคุณยังไม่มีแฟนและยังมองหาคนรักอยู่

be living together = to be living as a couple in the same house without being married อยู่ด้วยกันโดยไม่ได้แต่งงาน

spouse = (formal) the person you are married to คู่ครอง

partner = your husband, wife, boyfriend, or girlfriend คู่รัก (สามี, ภรรยา, แฟน)

marital status = whether you are single or married - used on official forms สถานะการแต่งงาน (โสดหรือแต่งงานแล้ว)

wedding = the ceremony at which people get married งานแต่ง
งาน หรือจะใช้ wedding party ก็ได้

bride = the woman who is getting married เจ้าสาว

bridegroom/groom = the man who is getting married เจ้าบ่าว

the best man = a friend of the groom, who helps him and gives a speech เพื่อนเจ้าบ่าว

bridesmaid = a woman or girl who helps the bride เพื่อนเจ้าสาว

hen night [British English]/bridal shower [American English] = a party before the wedding for the bride งานเลี้ยงก่อนวันแต่งงานสำหรับเจ้าสาว (เราอาจเคยเห็นธรรมเนียมนี้ในหนังฝรั่ง)

stag night [British English]/bachelor party [American English] = a party before the wedding for the groom งานเลี้ยงก่อนวันแต่งงานสำหรับเจ้าบ่าว

propose = to ask someone to marry you ขอแต่งงาน
