หลายคนคงเคยได้ยินคำว่า Suppose ในหลายๆประโยค แต่ว่ามันหมายถึงอะไรและใช้อย่างไรล่ะ
คำว่า Suppose หมายถึง สมมุติ, ลองคิดดู
เรามาดูวิธีใช้ Be supposed to เราจะใช้เหมือนคำว่า should เพื่อการพูดถึง คำแนะนำ หรือข้อบังคับ ข้อห้ามต่างๆ
You're supposed to wear a seatbelt when driving.
คุณควรจะคาดเข็มขัดนิรภัยเมื่อขับรถ
You're not supposed to drink and drive.
คุณต้องไม่ดื่มแล้วขับรถ
You're not supposed to smoke or eat in the train station.
คุณต้องไม่สูบบุหรี่หรือรับประทานอาหารในสถานีรถไฟ
Supposed to ยังใช้สื่อถึงความคิด ถึงสิ่งที่กำลังจะเกิดขึ้นจริงในอนาคต
เช่นเดียวกันกับความหมายของมันคือ สมมุติ หรือลองคิดดู เช่น
Peter is supposed to be here (but he isn't)
ปีเตอร์บอกว่าจะมา (แต่เขาไม่มา)
You were supposed to call me yesterday (but you didn't)

Supposed to ยังใช้สื่อถึงบทบาทสมมติได้ด้วย
