Conditional Sentence หรือ If Clauses ที่คนไทยรู้จัก

สวัสดีครับ วันนี้ผมจะนำ Grammar สมัยมัธยม มารื้อฟื้นกันใหม่ ซึ่งสมัยนั้นผมเองก็ไม่ได้ใส่ใจอะไรกับมันมากนัก(ตอนนั้นยังขี้เกียจอยู่) แต่หลังจากที่มาเริ่มเรียนภาษาอังกฤษอย่างจริงจัง ก็ทำให้เข้าใจว่า Conditional หรือที่คนไทยเรียกว่า If Clauses นั้นมีประโยชน์ต่อ บทสนทนาในภาษาอังกฤษมากมาย ทีนี้ลองติดตามดูนะครับแล้วจะรู้ว่ามีประโยชน์ยังไง
Conditional ในตำราจากหลายสำนักได้แบ่งแยกเป็นหลากหลายรูปแบบซึ่งที่ผมได้ศึกษามาแล้วและเข้าใจง่ายที่สุด ก็จะแบ่งได้ 4 แบบ คือ
1. Zero Conditional ที่นักเรียนสมัยผมท่องกันว่า "If+V1+present simple" ใช้นำเสนอ ความจริงหรือเป็นเหตุเป็นผลหรือธรรมชาติ
2. First Conditional ที่นักเรียนสมัยผมท่องกันว่า "If+V1+will+V1"
ใช้นำเสนอ ความจริงหรือเหตุการณ์ที่มีแนวโน้มว่าจะเกิด(ในอนาคต)
3. Second Conditional ที่นักเรียนสมัยผมท่องกันว่า "If+V2+would+V1" ใช้นำเสนอ สิ่งที่ไม่เป็นจริงหรือมีโอกาสน้อยที่จะเกิดขึ้น(ในอนาคต)
4. Third Conditional ที่นักเรียนสมัยผมท่องกันว่า "If+had+V3, Would+have+V3 ใช้นำเสนอ สิ่งที่ไม่เป็นจริงหรือมีโอกาสน้อยที่จะเกิดขึ้น(ในอดีต)
ยุ่งยากซะเหลือเกิน แต่ใครที่ถนัดจำแบบนี้ก็ไม่ว่ากันนะครับเพียงแต่คงไม่ใช่สำหรับผมแน่นอน อาจารย์สอนภาษาทุกคนที่ผมรู้จักต่างพูดเป็นเสียงเดียวกันว่า ไม่ใช่เรื่องยากที่จะเข้าใจ If Clause แต่อยู่ที่การฝึกฝนบ่อยๆ apply บ่อยๆก็จะเกิดความชำนาญเอง ไม่ต้องมานั่งท่อง ตาเหลือก แบบที่โรงเรียนมัธยมบางโรงหรือหลายๆโรงเขาสอนกัน
ซึ่งโครงสร้างของรูปประโยคจะเป็นดังนี้
If Clause คั่นด้วย "," แล้วตามด้วย Main Clause หรือ Main Clause if Clause ซึ่งกรณีหลังนี้เวลาเขียนจะไม่มี comma ขั้นระหว่าง clauses เหมือนกรณีแรก
Zero Conditional: ใช้ในกรณีที่เป็นความจริง เป็นเหตุเป็นผล
This is most commonly used for scientific facts, giving instructions, and things that are obviously always true.
โครงสร้างประโยค If + present, present
เช่น
If I travel abroad, I take my passport.
If I'm happy and satisfied, I always smoke.
If you heat water, it boils.
If you press the button, the machine start working.
Everything goes well if you are not here.
กรณีปฏิเสธ
I don't drink alcohol if I have to drive.
I can't go if I don't start my engine.
Everyone fines unless you come back.
Nobody knows it unless you teach them.
First Conditional: ใช้ในกรณีที่เป็นเหตุการณ์ปกติ หรือ อนาคตที่เป็นไปได้
This is used for situations that are possible or likely in the future.
โครงสร้างประโยค If/when + present, future
เช่น
If you find English grammar hard, you'll have to study a lot.
If I give you a hand with that job, we'll finish faster.
If you're nice to people, they'll be nice to you.
If it rains later, we'll get wet.
I'm going to be angry if you're late again.
If I have time, I'll come over later.
The situation will be hopeless if I don't speak to you right now.
กรณีปฏิเสธ
I won't go outside if it's too cold.
I won't go outside unless it's cool or warm enough.
Second Conditional ใช้ในกรณีที่เป็นเหตุการณ์ไม่ปกติ หรือ ใช้ในกรณีที่เป็นไปไม่ได้ (สำหรับ ปัจจุบัน และ อนาคต)
This is used for unlikely or impossible situations in the future.
โครงสร้างประโยค If + past, would + infinitive
เช่น
If I had a million dollars, I would go round the world.
If I were you, I would take the bus to university.
They would buy a new house if they had more money.
I would go on a diet if I wanted to lose weight.
If you married me, I would give you everything.
กรณีปฏิเสธ
Everything would be all right unless it was defeated by you.
เพิ่มเติมสำหรับการปฏิเสธ เราสามารถใช้ unless แทน if ... not.
I wouldn't disturb you if you didn't ask me to.
I wouldn't disturb you unless you asked me to.
Third Conditional ใช้ในกรณีที่เป็นเหตุการณ์ไม่ปกติ หรือ กรณีที่เป็นไปไม่ได้ (สำหรับ อดีต)
This is used for impossible situations in the past, to talk about events that did not happen in reality.
โครงสร้างประโยค If + Past Perfect Tense, would have + V3
เช่น
If he had known that, he would have decided differently.
If I had spoken Arabic, I would have asked someone the way to our hotel.
If I had gone to college, I would have studied German.
If you hadn't forgotten your wallet, you would have had enough money for dinner.
If I had known David, I wouldn't have married him.
กรณีปฏิเสธ
The meal wouldn't have been so bad if the food had been warm.
The meal would have been perfect unless the food hadn't been warm.
I wouldn't have married David if I had known his background as today.
I wouldn't have bothered you if it hadn't been necessary.
สำหรับ Grammar ในส่วนนี้ต้องบอกว่าไม่ยากครับแต่ต้องฝึกฝนบ่อยๆจนเกิดความชำนาญ และเมื่อชำนาญเวลาจะหยิบจับคำ หรือ Tense ต่างๆมาสร้างเป็นประโยคก็จะทำได้คล่องแคล่วมากขึ้น
