lay off someone = not employ, dismiss เลิกจ้างนั่นเองค่ะ  คำนี้มักใช้ในรูปของ passive voice (be + v.3) นะคะ

Ex. 1,520 workers were laid off as part of a restructuring.  

Ex. The company has to downsize and lay off some workers.

lay off something/somebody ความหมายที่ 2 คือ to stop using or doing something หยุดทำชั่วขณะหนึ่ง (คำนี้เป็น informal นะึึคะ)

Ex. You'd better lay off alcohol for a while.

Ex. Lay off me, will you?—it’s nothing to do with me. (ประโยคนี้ประมาณว่า เลิกยุ่งกับชั้นซะทีไ้ด้มั้ยเนี่ย -ชั้นไม่ได้เกี่ยวอะไรด้วยซะหน่อย)

lay out money on sth = to spend a large of money on something (informal) ใช้เงิน(จำนวนมาก)กับสิ่งๆหนึ่ง

Ex. It's not every day you lay out £2000 on a holiday.
