คิดถึง Tony Modena วันนี้วิคได้รับอีเมล์จาก Maureen เพื่อนสิงคโปร์ แจ้งว่า Tony เพื่อนชาวฟิลิปปินส์ของเราได้เสียชีวิตเมื่อวันเสาร์ที่ผ่านมาด้วยโรคมะเร็งในปอด ข่าวนี้ทำให้วิคตกใจและเศร้าใจมาก เพราะโทนี่ยังไม่แก่เลย (อายุ 59 ปีนี้ แต่เหมือน 40) และไม่มีวี่แววว่าจะเจ็บป่วยใดๆ ทั้งสิ้น โทนี่คือคนตัวเล็กๆ มีหนวดด้านขวาค่ะ ด้านซ้ายคืออดีตประธานาธิบดี Fidel Ramos เมื่อปี 1992 ขณะหาเสียง  พวกเราเจอกันที่ปารีสเมื่อหลายปีมาแล้ว Tony เป็นคนฟิลิปปินส์แบบ typical มาก คือสนุกสนานร่าเริง ร้องเพลงเพราะ enjoy กับชีวิต และที่สำคัญคือเป็นเพื่อนที่ดีมาก แม้ว่าวัยของเราจะห่างกัน 30 กว่าปีก็ไม่ได้เป็นอุปสรรคอะไร เพราะโทนี่ยังมีหัวใจของความเป็นเด็กอยู่เสมอ พวกเรา (มี Maureen (สิงคโปร์), Noorah(บรูไน) และ Rena(อินโด)) มักจะไปทานข้าว ดูหนัง และ drink กันอยู่เป็นประจำ รูปในบล็อกนี้จะเป็นรูปปารีสหมดนะคะเพราะพวกเราเจอกันที่นี่ และโทนี่ชอบปารีสมาก เสียดายที่ไม่มีรูปถนน Champs-Elysees ที่เป็นแหล่งรวมกิจกรรมเลย แม่น้ำ Seine และ Musee d' Orsay ที่โทนี่ชวนไปดูภาพโปรด Origine du Monde (Origin of the world) (1866) ซึ่งเป็นหนึ่งในภาพชิ้นเอกของ Gustave Courbet เป็นรูปท้องและอวัยวะเพศหญิง  เนื่องจากอายุและประสบการณ์ของโทนี่ที่มากกว่าคนอื่น (นอกจากนักการทูตแล้ว โทนี่ยังเคยเป็นนักหนังสือพิมพ์ และที่ปรึกษาของประธานาธิบดี Aroyo) วิคจึงมีเรื่องปรึกษาโทนี่อยู่บ่อยๆ ไม่ว่าเรื่องเรียน งาน รัก อกหัก ฯลฯ โทนี่ได้สอนวิคเกี่ยวกับการใช้ชีวิตในหลายด้าน แต่ที่จำได้ไม่ลืม คือ ประโยคที่ว่า... You never go where you are not welcome. (เมื่อวิคอยากไปงานเลี้ยงที่เจ้าภาพที่เคยซี้กันเขาแกล้งไม่บอกเรา เนื่องจากตอนนั้นโกรธกัน แต่วิคยังอยากดื้อไปเพราะ care เพื่อนคนนั้นมากและแขกทั้งหมดที่ไปก็เป็นเพื่อนวิคทั้งนั้นด้วย---โง่จังค่ะ---เมื่อ 2 อาทิตย์ที่แล้วเขามาบรัสเซลส์โทรมา missed call วิคตั้ง 30 กว่าครั้งยังไม่สนเลย) ....และ Vicky, you are not the centre of the universe. People don't care what you do. They care more about themselves so enjoy your life! Don't worry too much what others will think about you. ตอนนั้นไม่ค่อยเห็นด้วย แต่ตอนนี้ชักไม่สนใจว่าใครคิดยังไงแล้วค่ะ หากฉันไม่ได้ทำผิดกฏหมายหรือศีลธรรมจรรยาหรือทำให้ใครต้องเดือดร้อน หอไอเฟลที่แสนคิดถึง มุมนี้เป็นมุมจาก Place Trocadero ที่ไปนั่งเล่นแทบทุกเย็นทีเดียวค่ะ  โทนี่ออกจากปารีสเพื่อไปดำรงตำแหน่งเอกอัครราชทูตฟิลิปปินส์ประจำประเทศอิสราเอล เราไม่ได้เจอกันนับแต่นั้น แต่ก็ยังติดต่อกันทางอีเมล์อยู่เนืองๆ โทนี่รักปารีสมากและมักรำพันถึงชีวิตในปารีสบ่อยๆ... น่าเสียดายที่วิคไม่มีโอกาสได้ไปเยี่ยมโทนี่ตามคำชวน เพราะไม่ค่อยสนใจประเทศนี้ แต่ตอนนี้กำลังเรียนเรื่องประเทศแถบ North Mediterranean ก็ชักอยากไปแล้วค่ะ... แต่สายไปซะแล้ว โทนี่ไม่อยู่แล้ว Passerelle Léopold-Sédar-Senghor สะพานคนเดิน...ซึ่งพวกเรามักไปนั่งเล่นชมพระอาทิตย์+ดื่มไวน์+ฟังดนตรีกันในหน้าร้อน ฝั่งนึงเป็นพระราชวัง Louvre อีกฝั่งเป็น Musee d' Orsay  นี่เป็นอีเมล์ที่โทนี่เขียนถึงวิคเท่าที่หาเจอ (นอกนั้นลบไปเกือบหมดแล้ว) อันล่าสุดคือเดือน พ.ย.2006 เป็นฟอร์เวิร์ดเมล์ ก่อนที่โทนี่จะบินกลับมะนิลาในเดือนธันวาคมเพื่อกลับไปรักษาตัว 11 October 2005 Dear Vicky, I'm so glad that Maureen called me because I got your number. As you may recall, you and her and Noorah were my favorite Paris dates at George V. I miss those days. It was great to hear from you again after such a long time. I really hope you could come and visit. My humble abode is not ambassadorial. I refused to get a big house with a swimming pool and garden surrounded by walls like a prison. I opted for an apartment with a great view of the Medi from my balcony and just a 20 minute walk to the beach. We could still go to the beach even late in the year since winters here as not cold, except in Jerusalem and the Golan. Don't believe all that prattle about Israel being dangerous. Of course we keep telling my Ministry that so that I wouldn't have so many visiting firemen coming here. But it's safe. And I'm sure I will be safe from you, too. It would be great if you and Maureen could come together. We will have a great time and I will have a grand time showing my dearest friends around. Looking forward to showing you around. Tony และโทนี่ก็โทรมาหาวิคที่เมืองไทยจากอิสราเอลจนได้ น่ารักจริงๆ แต่เราไม่เคยโทรกลับเลย และยังไม่ค่อยตอบอีเมล์ด้วย มีแต่ส่งฟอร์ดเวิร์ดเมล์ไป...เพื่อนเลว  ประตูชัยอันที่อยู่หน้า Louvre  Dear Vicky, It's good to hear from you. Maureen 's at the London School of Economics, pursuing an advanced degree. I have the same problem with my French, even worst. And here, I tried to learn Hebrew but gave up after just a week. I'm too old a dog to be learning new tricks. Hehehehe! I watched "My Girl" (แฟนฉัน) again last night, in Thai. It has not lost the wonder. I specially like the girl's and the fat boy villain's acting. They came out very well defining her character. The girl's terrific acting came out specially in the scene where the boy pushed her to gain acceptance with his boy friends. Didn't Thailand enter it in Cannes or the Oscars? She could have won best actress. The fat boy was really obnoxious, which made him a very good actor. Also the ending was great. "My Girl" has become my favorite movie together with "Schindler's List". Oh, I miss you a lot too. I don't have warm pick up company here like in Paris. You know, when we can just call, like you would and go on a picnic or see a movie, or just go out for a drink. I miss Rena, too. I have not heard from her.
