Let’s take a look at its inspiring and interesting history and the famous spectacles that were carried out within its premises. - Constructed between the short time of 70-80 AD, Colosseum was seen by three emperors of Imperial Flavian dynasty, for which the name was given Flavian Amphitheatre.
- Emperor Vespasian started the construction of this iconic building in 70 AD. After the death of Vespasian his son Titus constructed the additional tier construction. Titus died in 79 AD. After his death, his youngest son Domitian oversaw the construction of the underground tunnels and additional extra level for the purpose to increase the seating capacity.
- The largest amphitheater in the world holds an enormous bronze statue of the Emperor Colossus of Nero which was located beside its structure.
- The Colosseum was recreated from time to time and was used for bloody games which includes public spectacles and gladiatorial contests. Several executions were also took place at this mythological amphitheatre.

Unlike other amphitheatres in Rome, Colosseum is a free standing structure made of travertine stone. The stones were carried out from nearby Tivoli area and held together with the help of iron clamps.
- The colosseum was mostly associated for its gladiator works.Though the combatants were not professional, still they have to pitted against each other for the entertainment of people of Rome. Animal hunt was the most popular show of the Colosseum. Animals like lions, elephants, giraffes, bears and crocodiles were sent into the pit for the enjoyment of people. It is believed that in 80 AD almost 9000 animals were killed in these bloody games.
