Italy is a place which is the favourite of culture and history lovers. It is a place which comes to my mind when I think about the place where people dream to visit. 

It is a country full of art and architecture, food and wine and magnificent history. In different parts of the world, the tourists are greeted differently by the locals. While  visiting any place it will give you a delightful experience if you know the culture and insight of locals.

Here is the list of 10 things you should know about Italy  if you want to travel to Italy like a local.

1. Greet everyone with two kisses

As the people of Italy are very affectionate, kissing on both cheeks  is the most common way to greet the tourists in Italy. Regardless of gender, age and how well you know them, greet people with kisses on each cheek when you meet someone to feel like locals.

2. Don't order a Cappuccino after 11 am. 

Cappuccino is a common breakfast drink in Italy. Try to have your breakfast before 11 am. If you order them after 11 am, then people think that you must have had a night out and wake up just.

3. Enjoy a mid afternoon ‘riposino” (nap)

Foreigners often complains about  the closed shops during the afternoon. Due to the stifling heat of noon , shops and other places in Italy are closed during these hottest hours especially in the summer.  So, take a nap and start again after 4pm, you will let you find open shops. 

4. Don't put Ketchup on Pizza or Pasta 

People of Italy uses ketchup for Burgers or fries and not for Pizza or Pasta. Whenever you asked for Ketchup for Pizza and pasta , it will make disappointment to the Italian Chef. Also the people from nearby tables will give you disapproving nods.  

5. Start your day with a sweet breakfast

Pastry, a coffee or cappuccino  and orange juice (occasionally) is the classic breakfast for Italian people.  So, whenever you are in Italy, have only these things for breakfast if you want to feel like a local. 

6. Dress up

The people of Italy are very fashionable and liked to be dressed up well especially in Milan. So, on your next trip to Italy, Dressed up well with pair of shoes, sunglasses and a new dress. To blend with locals. 

7. Dont visit in summer

Don't visit Italy in the summer months, With heat and over crowd, it the worst season to visit Italy. In summer a lot of Italians leave the country. Due to school holidays, tourists from all parts of the world flock to Italy, which makes the prices high. Try to visit Italy in spring or autumn, when the tickets prices are cheaper, the weather is mild and places are not overcrowded.  

8. Don't stand in lines

Don't stand in lines whether you’re ordering food at McDonalds, buying a movie ticket at the theatre or waiting to board a plane. The people of Italian avoid to be in line and they usually mob at the counters. This is common in Italy and you have to learn to get more from it. Try to make your way to the front and stand with attitude. No one will say you anything because they also don't maintain the queue. 

9. Drink only water, wine or beer with meals

The most common drink in Italy is Water, beer and wine. Most of the restaurants don't serve cocktails. Children can have soda.

10. Do things later

Everything in Italy happens later. People wake up later, breakfast and lunch later, go to bed later. If you ask your Italian friend to go to bed at 10 Pm, they will give you strange looks.
