My child arrived just the other day
He came to the world in the usual way
But there were planes to catch and bills to pay
He learned to walk while I was away
And he was talkin' 'fore I knew it, and as he grew

When you comin' home dad?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

My son turned ten just the other day
He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let's play
Can you teach me to throw", I said "Not today
I got a lot to do", he said, "That's ok"
And he walked away but his smile never dimmed
And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah
You know I'm gonna be like him"

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon

When you comin' home son?
I don't know when, but we'll get together then son
You know we'll have a good time then

Well, he came home from college just the other day
So much like a man I just had to say
"Son, I'm proud of you, can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head and said with a smile
"What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys
See you later, can I have them please?"

I've long since retired, my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind"
He said, "I'd love to, Dad, if I can find the time
You see my new job's a hassle and kids have the flu
But it's sure nice talking to you, Dad
It's been sure nice talking to you"

And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me

ผมนี้มีลูกชาย.........................เกิดง่ายง่ายไม่ยุ่งยาก
แต่พ่อมันลำบาก.....................วิ่งหาเงินตัวเป็นเกลียว
ตะลอนบินโน่นนี่.....................หนี้สินมีจ่ายจนเซียว
เผลอไปเพียงเดี๋ยวเดียว.............อ้าว! ไอ้หนูเดินได้ปร๋อ
ไม่เห็นตอนตั้งไข่.....................เพราะผมไปตอจอวอ
เผลอนิดมันพูดจ้อ...................ไม่น่าเชื่อโตเร็วไว
"พ่อจ๋าพ่อคอยดู......................ยามเมื่อหนูนั้นเติบใหญ่
หนูจะเอาอย่างใคร..................ถ้าไม่ใช่เอาอย่างพ่อ"

จันทร์เจ้าขอข้าวแกง............แหวนทองแดงให้น้องหนอ
ตายายไม่รีรอ.....................ปลูกถั่วงาในนาไร่
"พ่อฮับเมื่อไหร่กลับ.............หนูรอฮับมาไวไว"
"ลูกเอ๋ยพ่อก็ไม่...................รู้เมื่อไรจะได้กลับ
เอาไว้ตอนพ่อมา................พ่อจะพาไปเที่ยวครับ
สนุกให้จั๋งหนับ..................รอพ่อหน่อยนะคนดี"

อยู่มาไม่ช้านาน.................อายุผ่านสิบขวบปี
เจ้าหนูขอบคุณที่...............ได้ลูกบอลเป็นของขวัญ
"ขอบคุณพ่อนะครับ............เรามารับขว้างเล่นกัน"
"วันนี้ตลอดวัน...................พ่องานยุ่งเล่นไม่ไหว"
ลูกยิ้มเดินจากมา...............พูดแต่ว่า "ไม่เป็นไร"
"ผมจะเอาอย่างใคร.............ถ้าไม่ใช่เอาอย่างพ่อ"

จันทร์เจ้าขอข้าวแกง............แหวนทองแดงให้น้องหนอ
ตายายไม่รีรอ.....................ปลูกถั่วงาในนาไร่
"พ่อฮับเมื่อไหร่กลับ.............หนูรอฮับมาไวไว"
"ลูกเอ๋ยพ่อก็ไม่...................รู้เมื่อไรจะได้กลับ
เอาไว้ตอนพ่อมา................พ่อจะพาไปเที่ยวครับ
สนุกให้จั๋งหนับ..................รอพ่อหน่อยนะคนดี"

ลูกไปมหา'ลัย....................กลับมาได้ตอนสิ้นปี
มาดชายชาติชาตรี..............ในตัวเจ้าพ่อปลื้มใจ
"ลูกรักลูกมานั่ง..................คุยให้ฟังจะได้ไหม"
ลูกยิ้มส่ายหน้าไป.............."ยืมรถก่อน นะพ่อนะ
เล่าวันหลังละกัน................เรื่องมันมันที่พบปะ
วันนี้มีธุระ.........................แล้วค่อยเจอะกันนะพ่อ"

วันวารกาลจำเนียร...............ผมเกษียณมาหลายปี
ลูกชายก็ย้ายที่....................ไปทำงานตามทางเขา
วันนั้นอยากเห็นหน้า............โทรฯตามหาประสาเรา
"พ่ออยากเจอหน้าเจ้า...........มาหาหน่อยจะได้ไหม"
ลูกบอกว่า "พ่อครับ..............อยากบอกรับจะตายไป
แต่ว่าท่าไม่ไหว...................งานมันยุ่งยุงตีกัน
ลูกเต้าก็หวัดงอม.................เรื่องมันล้อมพัลวัน
ดีใจได้คุยกัน.......................ขอบคุณครับที่โทรมา"
ผมวางโทรศัพท์...................ใจหวนกลับนึกถึงว่า
ลูกผมพอโตมา....................ถอดทุกท่ามาจากพ่อ
