Oh what a day!!!
And it's only lunchtime...
Started off with a phone call, a user from one of the NHS hospitals...couldn't connect to the Med school servers. Thought it was the servers problem. Checked and they looked healthy. Went downstairs to use a machine that can pretend that you're outside the network, connected ok. No idea to go from there then...got the user to phone Help desk as couldn't do a thing.
Luckily a second call from another user from another NHS hospital...couldn't connect either...cool! there's a connection there...must be something THEY've done...not US!
Got on the phone to Mark...Who said..."Ah...It's the TRUST. I asked them to change something on the network but looked like they didn't do it the way I asked"
It's Mark and the TRUST now. Just have to let users and the other techies know.
That one's done! though not sorted.
Next...
Email from a user at the Partner college..connection kept dropping...not 'nuf info there...wanted to know if the drop was the Citrix or the Juniper connection...hoping it was the Juniper as not my responsibility...hee hee...cheap scape! Didn't work that way..duh!! was the Citrix...bugger!!!
Checked out the settings made some changes ICAKeepAlive stuff...this though would affect ALL users...not just Plumpton's...just have to wait to hear the screams. It might not take effect until after the nightly reboot. In the meantimes...wonder if the user has any screensaver running...it might have been that. Bingo!...she's running one...asked for it to be disabled...Still wouldn't know if it's that until Monday as she said...'Have a nice weekend' in her last email...Lucky user..gone home already eh? what about tomorrow?...only Friday...
Anyway...that's 'sort of' done...until Monday.
Other user from St.Peter's House still can't connect...nearly 2 weeks now...apparently there's a bug in the network when they upgraded it 2 weeks ago. Just have to wait for the external support people to sort out. Frustrating this as can't do anything for them except suggesting they went to use a machine in Grand Parade, or use the Dial-up connection...just got a reply...no modem there...not surprised...who uses a modem these days...soon be another thing of the past.
Not altogether nice when you can't solve problems. When users can't do their work.
The only consolation is that you've or I've...whatever...done the best I could...can't do anything else...
Next...
Safari...keeps throwing error...session expired...when it's not...
Spent most day yesterday googling and testing things out...not that urgent I'll leave it for now. Might even be a bug which I can't do anything about....
Enough work for today my brain hurts...well not really...hee hee...just don't feel like 'working' anymore I am going to play now...
Oh...another thing to look forward to this evening...
As there's a parcel to be picked up at the Sorting Office in town, I planned to do a bit of Christmas shopping as it's Thursday which is a late night shopping day. A few shops stay open until 8pm. Might walk around looking at Christmas lights and take some snaps.
Might even phone up Tony see if he fancies coming out for a meal or something AFTER I've done my shopping. I don't like going shopping with anyone. I am a loner bastard! and I like that in me. But...may be not...just had a Chinese meal out last night...Tony and I, Suki and John...Very nice too...Maybe too much of a good thing is not such a good thing. See how I feel...
Oh...We at work, just agreed that we'll be going to Pailin, a nice Thai restaurant in Lewes, 2 train stops away...for our Christmas lunch again 3rd years in a row now...on December 12th...then I'll be off the next day for 3 weeks...to paradise...Yippy. Must phone the restaurant now.
Oh...another 'good' news just arrived...Robin just got an email answer about Safari problem...it's the bug. THEY (meaning not US!) will have to find the solution for it. Cool! I can cross that one out now!
Right...I am having a cup of coffee and a biscuit!
