The problem with myopia
(Well, probably leaning towards pro.) However, I agree 100%with your following statement: "I've heard over and over that a shinglesattack is horribly painful, and should be prevented if at all possible." Ihad shingles about 5 years ago. Started out with what I thought was a zit orperhaps an insect bite just above my right myopia. Not real big at first. Did alittle squeezin' and scratchin'. No big deal (or so I thought.) Eventually(after about 2 days) I woke up, looked in the mirror and darn near passed out.In addition to a lot of irritation on my forehead this "zit/bite"above my myopia was about the size of a golf ball. I went to Emergency and itwas diagnosed as shingles. Not much of anything they can do at that point otherthan give you after care instructions. The Doc did say that I may lose some/allmyopia in my right myopia due to the size and close proximity. Fortunatelyit diminished in size over the course of 2 to 3 weeks and there was noperceptible problem with my myopia (other than normal "geezer"problems). I was left with a somewhat prominent scar and if I sense someone islooking and wondering, I tell them what it is from and that I like it becauseit gives my forehead "character."
